No risk, no worry: You keep asking the same quesation. The answer is the same. There is little or no risk. You probably already have dormant CMV and cannot catch it again. Dormant infections rarely harm the fetus or newborn. Do your best to stop worrying about this. If any further questions, as your obstetrician.

Acute infection: is suggested by the presence of IgM antibodies but it is not 100 % certain that your infection did not start in the first half of pregnancy when the risk for the baby is higher.  Of babies born with congenital  CMV, 80 percent will have no consequences while 20 percent will have hearing loss over time and be at risk for other problems. It is important to determine if the virus iis present. while the details are too many to answer in this short space, there is reason to ascertain the presence of virus and consider hyperimmune globulin treatment which may reduce risk to the baby for consequences other than hearing loss.

CMV: While congenital CMV is a risk for your baby, the antiviral treatment for CMV is not safe to use while pregnant. It can have teratogenic and carcinogenic effects on the fetus.  There are not treatments recommended for CMV in pregnant women.

If paired CMV IgG &amp;:  IgM titers document a primary CMV infection in the 1st trimester, a Fetal Maternal Medicine Specialist needs to follow your pregnancy. No treatments for CMV are safe for pregnant women. Chance of transmission to fetus is 30-50%; chance of neonatal symptoms, 10%; chance of symptoms by age 2, 20%. Baby will need regular Early Intervention assessments &amp; tests of hearing &amp; vision, if infected.

CMV: Does the child who coughed on you have CMV? If they did then transmission is unlikely but possible. If they child does not have CMV then you would not catch CMV.

Depends: If your CMV IgM comes back negative things should go well. Many have CMV as kids &amp; would be forever immune, but some don't so we do worry.

i have primary cmv infection, 18 weeks pregnant. what are the babies odds of getting it and being affected? dont want to do amniocentesis just ultrasounds and i want to do immunoglobulin while pregnant. are these good ideas? im upset/ worried sick?

: Unfortunately, documented infection with CMV in the first and second trimesters can cause birth defects such as hearing loss, and in severe cases, cause fetal death in utero. Obtain a referral to a maternal fetal medicine specialist in OBGYN from your OB physician for guidance.
