Accepted Answer

No: If he had a total thyroidectomy, he will be on replacement thyroid hormone with levothyroxin for example or other thyroid hormone preparation. Whether you had a topical exposure to iodine should not make any difference. It would not be harmful.

hi i just had cervical neck surgery a week and a half ago. how can i clean my incision?   i have some dried blood and would like to clean it.

Post surgery care: Check with your surgery team, and make sure you have a post operative appointment set up. In general washing the area with warm warm and gentle soap is approved. Then use a hairdryer to the area of the incision. If you have redness, drainage, fever or vomiting call your doc right away.

i had an incision and drainage of abscess two days ago. how do i clean my wound and keep it clean?

Shower and keep dry: If there was packing take it out and shower normally. Use mild soap and keep it dry with gauge. May need to change it frequently if lot of drainage. If they instructed u to pack it, then follow there directions. U also need to c ur doctor to make sure it is healing well.

It's healed: After one month, your c-section scar should have completely healed. If that's the case you don't need any gauze. Applying cacao butter to the wound 4 times daily will make the scar thinner and softer.

Contact your surgeon: You should contact your surgeon who can examine and evaluate the incision and determine if it is infected or not and prescribe Rx if needed.

how to get rid of pus on a small incision? my daughter had back surgery and has two small incisions on her back.  one has dried and looks good while the other one has a little pus on it.  how do we clean it?

Ask : Ask your spine surgeon, if very superficial, open it and use pack and or dressing changes and it will heal, but the scars won't match.

i have a month old perirectal incision that left a small hard lump. a few days ago it had the feeling of cracked irritated skin and bled a very small amount when cleaned. i have been using mupirocin and neosporin with a bandage. what is causing that?

: This may have been a postop hematoma ( blood clot) under the skin. It doesn't have characteristics of an infection. A proctologist or colorectal surgeon are best to evaluate and advise you about your wound care as needed.

do you use glue to close incisions?

Accepted Answer

Occasionally: There are some dermal bonding agents or glues that may be used. However, the usage of said agents is not common. One has to be very careful when using them about the eyes and face. Usually we'll close with a sub dermal absorbable suture, and reinforce the closure with strips. We also use staples or traditional nylon sutures on occasion. Hope this helps. Good luck.
