Cold/flu like symptoms last 1 to 2 weeks. Allergies last longer and recur more often.

Stop Claritin (loratadine): Claritin will be out of a person's system is about 3 days. There are other antihistamines available to treat allergies.  Nasal steroid sprays are even more effective than antihistamines for treating allergies.

Evaluation: I would recommend that you confirm with your provider if allergies are the reason for your headache.  You have used allergy medications to treat your headache and apparently have not had benefit.   I think it may be likely that your headache is not allergy related at this point.

Yes: However, both the "d" in clariten d and the Maxalt (rizatriptan) mlt can cause a feeling of a pounding heartbeat, so beware of this possible side effect.  In fact whenever you mix medicines, they can increase some side effects.

Yes, but: Both Claritin (loratadine) and zyrtec (cetirizine) are new generation antihistamines.  While there is no harm to using them together, there is likely no added benefit either.  The most effective treatment for nasal allergies is the topical nasal steroid sprays such as qnasl, flonase, veramyst, nasonex, (mometasone) etc if a person doesn't have relief with an antihistamine alone.

can i take tylenol (acetaminophen)?

Yes Tylenol (acetaminophen) is ok: Unfortunately headache is one of the common side effects of Loratadine. You can take Tylenol, (acetaminophen) there is no interaction with Loratadine and it will definitely help. Get well soon!

ive been getting nonstop headaches for about a yr at least, nothing shows on mri's, i do have allergies to foods and other stuff too, i take claritin and benadryl at night, thought meds would stop reactions, is it possible headaches are from allergie?

: Your normal brain MRI is reassuring. I suspect that a neurologist has evaluated &amp;advised you. If not, consult one to determine what type of headaches you're experiencing. In my opinion chronic stress&amp;tension causing almost constant muscle contraction headaches is a common diagnosis when neurologic workup is otherwise negative. I doubt allergies are the culprit.

Possibly: Sometimes different people react differently to otc meds, the Claritin (loratadine) or the pseudofed can cause the headache. Try the claritan with out the "d" and see if the samething happens. But if your headache continues to be significant, consider eval by your primary doctor.
