Clam Allergy: Clam is a type of shellfish. Shellfish allergy is the most common food allergy among adults in the United States. Skin reactions such as hives or eczema. Symptoms may include itchy, red, watery eyes, nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, or diarrhea, wheezing or coughing or runny nose, swelling of lips, tongue, or face or may become a medical emergency. Avoid oysters, squid if you're sensitive to clam.

Not known: I was unable to find an exact number in the literature, but it is generally advisable to avoid all shellfish if you have had an allergic reaction and are confirmed to be sensitized to shellfish.

Great question: Better to be specific.  Shellfish =  “crustaceans” (lobsters, "crayfish", prawns, crabs and shrimp)  and  “molluscs, ”  [abalone, oysters, mussels, and squid (calamari)].  Other fish allergies are to  “scaly” and “bony” fish, such as cod, haddock, herring, sprat, halibut, mackerel, trout and salmon.  Hard to differentiate when they are cooked together!

Food allergy: When it comes to food allergies, especially in patient with multiple food allergies like yourself, the diagnosis of it should be taken very careful so we don't over-diagnose it. Over-diagnosis will bring unnecessary burden to your quality of life. Diagnosing should be correlate with clinical symptoms of wheezing, hives, abdo pain... Lab tests help us gauge the risk of having food allergy only.

i have terrible gi symptoms after i eat clams. md tested my blood and found all mollusks i had an ige of .34 where allergy would be defined at .35. could i become allergic in the future? can it change

Symptoms not labs: Symptoms are more important than IgE levels. If you feel ill when eating clams, don't eat them. The IgE level doesn't predict what might happen in future.

started as post nasal drip from milk food allergies  (clam chowder)  and turned into feeling sick with coughing, sneezing and mucus.  am i sick?

Yes by definition: However your problem could be from an allergic reaction and you likely have asthma as well (milk , clam. or other ingredients in the chowder).   Consult an allergist to find out what you may be allergic to and whether you have asthma.

Why not: I don't see why she cannot. All she eats needs to be of good quality and cooked well, but clam chowder is not a contraindication unless she has allergy to any component of it.

Try these: Breathing exercises (deep breath, hold it briefly, breath out slowly, repeat). Positive thinking (repeat "i am okay" to yourself). Yoga.  Meditation. Prayer.  Journal writing.  Talking to a good friend/family member. Counseling/therapy. Exercise.  Guided imagery.

i'm 99% sure i have quiet bpd but its not widely known, and ii'm scared of people not believing me. i want therapy but clam up and sometimes even disassociate when confronted. how should i let someone know in a way they will believe me.

See below: BPD is usually not diagnosed in people under 18, but a small number are diagnosed earlier - I would talk with my parents, and  have them help you find a psychiatrist who is an experinced with BPD patients - If the psych MD agrees with your diagnosis - then you can get early treatment- the good news - many of the symptoms resolve as the person grows older
