Ear vs jaw: Do you have a history of ear infections or ear surgery?   You may have eustachian tube dysfunction which would cause a retraction of your eardrum and pain.  Finally there is some chronic ear pain caused in patients who have tmj, or inflammation of the jaw joint.  You should see an ENT for this first to rule out the ear problems first.

Prolonged earache: Hello, if you are having prolonged ear pain, it may be related to your TMJ joint. Since the jaw joint is so close to the ear canal, pain from the joint is often referred to the ear. Check with your doctor. There are many possible causes and a detailed history and physical will help identify the cause and thus the treatment.

Trigeminal Neuralgia: Tn is a specific name to a type of facial pain. It can take a few doctors visits to get a final ruling. Don't wait it is not cancer but the pain can make you wish you were dead! think flesh/tissue and not nerves for face pain! begin a self-care wellness program of vits, magnesium, sleep, self/pro massage, chiropractor, heat, stretching. I use acupuncture and trigger point shots! see other answers.

Jaw pain: Could be tm joint pain. See a dentist for proper care. There are some inserts that can be custom made for proper alignment.

Earache: May not be in ear canal but in middle ear. See pcp/ent for examination & treatment. Nsaid may help reduce inflammation & better ease pain than Acetaminophen or narcotic. Keep q-tips/pencils/etc out of ear canal!

TMJ: If your ear hurts and there are no obvious ear causes of ear pain, it may be that you have ear pain that is being referred from elsewhere. This can be from a throat infection or from your temporomandibular joint. Temporomandibular joint dysfunction which is an arthritis of your TMJ can present as an earache. It can also arise from grinding your teeth or your bite being off from dental work.

? Sinusitis: tonsillectomy wouldn't help, except removal of infected tonsillitis, and that again won't help not getting sore throat, visit your doctor, who might refer you to an allergist, check aaaai.org or acaai.org for an allergist in your area, good luck

Veins in general: Are not palpable and have no pulse, because they are low pressure blood pressure vessels.  You should confer with an ENT specialist for your condition.

Possible: Any one of these pains can be referred from elsewhere.  So you could have a tooth cavity or oral infection that is transmitting pain to the ear or you could have an ear infection that is radiating pain to the jaw or tooth
