i've been dealing with nerve pain in both of my  biceps. i had a rib remover in july and still have the pain. where do i go from here?

Pain & neuro consult: It is important to note which rib was removed, what level and for what reason. Did the pain occur after this procedure? Were you under general anesthesia for this procedure? You need to have testing such as emg-ncv of your upper extremities to evaluate for possible nerve damage. If there are signs and symptoms compatible with neuropathic pain, there are medications and nerve blocks that can help.

Chronic tear: Perhaps you have a chronic partial biceps tendon tear vs an injury to your musculocutaneous nerve. I would recommend and EMG (electromyography) and an MRI of your upper arm, elbow, and shoulder.

i am recovering from surgery and am getting left arm pain that comes and goes.  it is a throbbing pain in my bicep and hurts almost like a pulse throb.   i have a history of nerve pain so i never know when to take these pains seriously.  ?

can ulnar nerve pain cause bicep and tricep pain? also have pain on both sides of elbow/wrist.  carpal tunnel was released on same arm 4 months ago.

May not be ulnar: The ulnar nerve can cause pain through out its distribution in your arm, but your pain does not fit only ulnar pain. Carpal tunnel syndrome is related to your median nerve. To have both median nerve and ulnar nerve issues, you most likely have an issue upstream of those nerves not specifically with the median or ulnar, either brachial plexus issue or cervical radiculopathy. Emg should be done.

It could be due to a: several conditions like De Quervain's tenosynovitis  which is a painful inflammation of the tendons on the thumb side of the wrist, carpal tunnel syndrome affecting the tendon across the wrist, a radial nerve or other nerve entrapments, or an abnormal fluid collection like a ganglion cyst.  See a specialist for electrodiagnostic testing or imaging studies.

Butrans: Butrans is a 7 day patch for moderate-severe pain for continuous blood level however one should expect pain control by 1/3 or 30% and not 100% it is also not a replacement for people taking high doses of controlled pain meds

Likely: Especially if you suffer from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, but other nerve compressions can affect you, such as ulnar at Guyon's canal, and radial nerve over thumb.  Consider an EMG study to confirm extent and location.

Diagnosis aren't : made over the internet, and your condition warrants being seen by a doctor or PCP for further evaluation and treatment post-trauma to make sure you don't have brain injury or bleeding that can affect behavior. So don't delay seeking care. S/he can refer you to psychologist or psychiatrist if needed.

what can be done to manage chronic abdominal nerve pain besides pain meds? can you get off pain meds in one month?

Some possibilities: Has the cause of the pain been found? Nerves can be pinched, in the back, but in soft tissues, between muscles, by a stitch (from surgery), by a scar, etc. A good osteopathic exam, in addition to your current therapy might be in order & might lead to non-medicinal treatment. You can get off pain meds, but the question is are you more functional on or off them? That's a very personal decision.

CBT, acupuncture: Cognitive behavioral training aka back school or work hardening.  Acupuncture, tens and other alternative therapy.  Spinal cord stimulators, intra thecal pumps.  There are a spectrum of options depending on patient comfort and determination.
