Not necessarily: Some medication are dosed by weight but not others. look at the bottle and follow the instructions given

Bad idea: Add medications should be used to treat add. However, there are children who misbehave due to impulsivity (reacting prior to thinking). Impulsivity can be treated with medication. I would strongly consider consulting with a child psychiatrist for child therapist to investigate your options.

Varies: It depends on the cause of hyperactivity. There are many reasons for an ad child to be hyperactive.  You, behavioral assistant, speech therapists, pt, teachers, and doctors need to figure out why. If child is chronically ill, frustrated, anxious, in pain, obsessing, he could be hyperactive. There is no one medication to use in a recipe fashion.

Depends: If the selective mutism is due to a social phobia or agoraphobia, then there are some possible treatments that may help. Anxiolytics can reduce these symptoms.

Yes: There are not many safe over-the-counter cold medications for children.  The medications which had been previously available were both not very effective for children and also rather easy to overdose.  The best OTC medications for children continue to be tylenol (acetaminophen) (acetominophen) products and Motrin (ibuprofen) products.  When in doubt, ask your pharmacist for help with OTC choices for kids.

ADHD : Adhd is not always treated with medications. There are programs that are behaviorally based as well.

Ok: If you are sensitive to adult doses of medications.  It is ok to start with children's doses.

Lower dose: Children's Claritin is just half the dose of the adult variety. It may be easier (and less expensive!) to just break the adult tablet in half. If it eases your mind, Claritin is generally very well tolerated, with much less drowsiness than older medications like benadryl (diphenhydramine).

Meds can be used.: In some cases medication is, in fact, used to treat ptsd. But, just because it can be used does not mean that it will be used.
