Allergy vs fungus: This could be an allergic reaction although it should be everywhere on your body, not just scalp, ears and groin. It could very well be that the Cephalexin has suppressed your immune systems synergistic bacteria that keeps typical candidal fungus species at bay and this is the side effect. Happens a lot with women treated for urinary tract infxns then getting yeast infxn due to the antibiotic.

Penicillin Allergy: If you have an allergy to Keflex that means you cannot take penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics. There are other classes of antibiotics like sulfa, tetracyclines, macrolides, lingcosamides and others which you may not be allergic to.

Complex question: it depends on the type of reaction when you were exposed to penicillin, what's comforting though is that it took place 45 yrs ago, and possibility of having a reaction with cephalexin is minimal, now 2 options: either ask your doctor for an alternate drug, or, take the cephalexin first dose in your doctor's office under his/her supervision, serious reactions occur within the 1st hr of the 1st dose

? : There is a certain degree of cross reactivity between Keflex and penicillin. If one is getting an antibiotic and allergic to penicillin , i believe there are better choices i.E zithromax, Clindamycin etc. I am insure why you are being prescribed an antibiotic though in the first place. You did not indicate that you had an infection! you don't take an antibiotic for an allergic reaction.

my doctor put me on keflex for allergies.  i had a normal cbc. i'm confused. i have slight sore throat left ear pain and globus hysteria with it..????

Keflex: Keflex won&#x27;t help allergies, but an antihistamine such as Claritin (loratadine) would be helpful.If I have to guess, your doctor put you on Keflex for your sore throat and/or earache
