Crowned tooth pain: Pain in a tooth that has a crown may result from an infected nerve that would need a root canal, a fractured tooth under the crown or in the root, or because the bite is high and needs to be adjusted.
You should see your dentist for an examination and x-ray.

i had a root canal thursday ,and four days after i still have pain when chewing or taping on my tooth ;also a sensitivity to cold but not hot .the big problem is that my neck on that side hurts really bad ,strangling sensation.idea of what can be?

More info needed...: Maxillary or mandibular tooth? Infection or no infection? Injections? Your best bet is a followup visit with your treating dentist for a re-evaluation of that tooth.

Infection: When you have pain in your teeth, and a tender lymph node; this is an infection until proven otherwise.
You need antibiotics x 10 days.
After 10 days, if no improvement, then more serious issues need to be investigated.

day 12 of bootom wisdom teeth removed. having horrible pain when chewing and can hardly open mouth. jaw is sore. was a hard extraction for the dr. my jaw is sore and feels like my bite is off. having to take ibuprofen 3 x a day. ?

See below: A compromised tooth (fracture, failing old filling) may need to be covered and protected by a crown.  First, there must be enuf healthy tooth as a foundation.  It may be necessary to do a "core buildup".  Then the tooth is reduced in all dimensions (ground down if you must), a mold (impression) is taken, and then a crown is custom fabricated to recreate the tooth that was once there.

No Sticky Foods: No sticky foods like taffy, jujubes, abba zabba that could stick to the crown and it's opposing tooth and pull the new crown off.  The crown cement needs to set.

Depends: It really depends on the condition of the tooth, is it otherwise healthy with intact walls?
If so then have the filling replaced so you floss there without a problem .
If the tooth is heavenly restored with large or multiple filling then crowning the tooth would be best.

Why Is it Drilled: It depends why the tooth is being drilled. If the bite is off, an adjustment of the tooth usually takes off a small fraction of a millimeter of the enamel outer coating. Small areas of decay can be drilled out & a simple filling placed.  When decay is deep, the tooth is fracture or more and 1/2 to 2/3 of the tooth needs restoring then a crown is needed.

Complex: The root canal treatment is probably now recontaminated and usually will need to be 'retreated'. However, if this loosening has occurred, then it may be that there is not enough solid tooth to support the crown and biting forces. Might not be a good idea to fix this, but rather extract it and have an implant placed with a crown after 3 - 4 months. See prosthodontist for options. Good luck.

Repairing a tooth with a crown on is often possibly by putting a small filling at the edge of the crown where there is decay. If you mean repairing a tooth by placing a crown, then it is an entirely different procedure. After preparing the tooth, a dental lab makes the crown & the dentist cements it.
