No real side: Effects you can get a flare and some soreness from the injection some people can be allergic to the non-synthetic versions such as synvisc (hylan g-f 20). They do help and do better in people with mild moderate arthritis. It doesn't reverse DJD but it does prevent it from accelerating. Arthritis can cause a clunk. I would see an ortho doc and have them go through your options.

Many!: Many things can present as knee pain: meniscus tears, cartilage injury, muscle strain (calf or thigh), arthritis, bone bruise, infection, nerve injury, ligament injury, fracture, hip arthritis and problems (especially in children).  If the pain does not resolve with rest, nsaids/tylenol, ice, and activity modification, see your doctor.

Severe osteo--: -arthritis is a safe bet. Check with your orthopedic surgeon, as your May have just a flare up of your arthritis. An injection can easily quiet it down.

: If you are moving from a bent knee to straight, the pop could be any number of things including a tendon or ligature. If it continues, it should be evaluated, especially since it is causing pain. If it hurts to bend the knee, then a person would try not to do this and walk with a straight leg-this too should be evaluated so that a diagnosis can be made and treatment given. May need to see ortho.

Meniscal sprain: Most common injury is meniscal sprain especially of located in the medial aspect of the knee. Would recommend rest, ice, some anti-inflamatories and if no improvement xray & exam with your pcp.

Yes: A torn meniscus can cause the knee to "lock" when the flap of meniscus that is torn gets pinched between the femur and tibia. This would be the most common reason for a knee joint to lock although sometimes a loose body which is a little piece of bone can do the same thing. See an orthopedist.

Second opinion: Bakers cysts can definitely be removed and it is not uncommon to have to do so.  The bigger question is are you having enough trouble with it to have it removed.  They are also sometimes associated with an internal derangement in the knee and so an MRI can provide more information.  If you want it removed and the surgeon is unwilling, consider a second opinion.
