Meniscal sprain: Most common injury is meniscal sprain especially of located in the medial aspect of the knee. Would recommend rest, ice, some anti-inflamatories and if no improvement xray & exam with your pcp.

Suspect kneecap: There can be many causes but i would first suspect chondromalacia patella. This is the cartilage on the back of the kneecap (patella). Your best remedy is to strengthen the thigh muscle by quadriceps exercises. These are the most important exercises to help your knee.
