can charley horse happen in front of leg instead of calf? got spasm in front lower leg from below knee to foot. very painful like the usual spasm but this was in front of leg instead of back calf. not sure what caused?

: When you exceed the endurance capabilities of a muscle, it locks up in order to protect itself from tearing. (otherwise, continued use would cause the tear.) this type of spasm or cramp is known as a charlie horse. They can occur in any muscle that you exceed that muscle's endurance limit.

Possibly: Could be result of nicotine but sounds like some type of neurologic issue, perhaps trauma to nerve, dehydration or radiculopathy. First step is to cut back or stop vape use

See a doctor: You need to be examined to make sure that your have proper blood flow and potassium levels.

You might want to try stretching, heat to your legs, multivitamin.

Possible : Potassium deficiency. Often times a doc gives a patient  potassium supplements. Speak to your doc as fluctuations in potassium can have an effect on cardiac function.

Ankle injury: I fear that the extensive bruising indicates a torn ankle ligament. To avoid permanent or chronic ankle damage, see an orthopedic surgeon for evaluation and treatment. Calf pain may be secondary to abnormal walking since your injury but get checked for phlebitis. Swelling of eyelid is unrelated but get it checked. Elevate your ankle and ice it until you're seen.

Could be a blood clo: This needs  immediate evaluation. This coud be a blood clot. Please  contact your physician  now. It may be a different cause but you need to get  evaluated.

got a colorful tattoo on my calf last week. 4 1/2hours it took.foot swelled up and was painful which i expected . but it still hurts. every time i stand extreme pain goes to the tattoo & feels like charlie horse. i was told it was reaction to dyes?

: could be an allergy to one or more of the dyes, but also might be infected. See dermatologist for exam and possible tx.

ruptured achilles and got surgery about a week ago. started having charlie horse type cramping in my calf. can feel that my calf/foot is swelling, but not sure if this is all normal or not 6 days out from surgery?

: some swelling is normally expecteed post surgery. But if the symptoms do not get better pl have your surgeon take a look. In the meantime use a heating pad to the area 3-4 times a day and take Ibuprofen. Hope you feel better

A pinched nerve: The nerve that travels to your foot may be pinched in the position that you are describing.  That nerve can control sensation and muscle movement.  Therefore, you get a painful sensation and the muscles have spasms which create difficulty moving.  You want to find out if structurally something is off; consider having a podiatrist check you.

Stretching: Cramps at night are not uncommon. You should consider stretching your muscle groups prior to bed time. In addition you should make sure you are drinking plenty of water. Low potassium may also be an issue. Try eating a banana once a day to increase your potassium level.
