Accepted Answer

One per day: It depends on what brand of pills you are on. Some have 21 active pills and  7 placebo. Others have 24 and 4. Others have 26 and 2. Take the pills once per day as directed. Confirm with your doctor if you are on a brand that allows an alternative of the normal instructions.

im on the pill, i take it constantly every day at the same time. i only ever get my period on the brown placebo pills im still on the white colored pills and i started my period. what does this mean?

: It just means your menses comes early this month, a breakthrough bleeding, then you should start the new OC pack. Good luck.

Possibly yes: Whether on birth control or not, typically women who  conceived will not get a menstrual period. However, some women do have their menstrual periods sometimes just a few cycles into their pregnancies, occasionally throughout the entire pregnancy. Having had a menstrual period is not a reliable indicator for a woman that she is not pregnant.

Oral contraceptives: Typically , the birth control pills are 3 weeks of medication and 1 week of placebo.  So, yes, if you have been taking the birth control pills as directed for a few cycles at least, taking the placebo pills a week early will result in a withdrawal bleed - your period.

Probably OK: Many women do have an extended cycle with the pill by doing just what you suggest.  It is safe to skip the placebo pills and just not have the period.  It is probably a good idea to have a period every three or four months when doing the extended cycle.

BCP questions: while you should start your period during the placebo pills  your cycle and body may be adjusting to the new levels of hormones from the pill.    Assuming you took them correctly and this is your second month I would wait until the last of the placebos to check a pregnancy test.  You need to be on the pill at least a month before stopping a backup method.   Check with your doctor.

: With very low dose oral bcp's such as "blisovi 1/20" the amount of estrogen in the bcp does not stimulate much endometrial thickness, and the withdrawal bleeding is very minimal, and occasionally not visible.

If you took your...: ... active pills while you were on your period, then you may have none left.  If you wait another week to start your next pack, you could ovulate during that cycle.  The safest thing is to start your next pack now.  If the problem recurs, let your doctor know.  Break thru bleeding &amp; early periods may indicate that you need either higher dose or "stronger" OCP's to prevent pregnancy.

WAIT!: If I understand you correctly, taking the second round of placebo right after the first, you could easily ovulate with this cycle.  Generally, the worst time to miss pills is during the first week of active pills.  The Pill needs to be taken as prescribed in order to be maximally effective at preventing pregnancy.  If I misunderstood, please resubmit your ? with clarification.

7 days off : if you are on a traditional pill that has 21 hormone pills and 7 placebos then understand that you can but be off the hormone pills for more than 7 days or there is risk that ovulation will resume. If this is the case then you should use condoms
