Good operation: Of all arthroscopic operations, the one with the best and most predictable outcome is meniscal surgery. However, if your meniscus is torn, it may be a heralding sign of advancing degenerative change within the knee. There is no knee operation associated with a quicker recovery then a partial meniscectomy. Meniscus repair surgery takes a longer time to recover, but preserves the meniscus.

Like any surgical --: Procedure, it'll hurt but this incisional pain gets better all the time. Your pain from the torn meniscus will be eliminated, after the surgery. You'll need pt afterwards. You'll be getting pain meds for a couple of weeks.
A month or so later you'll be glad to get rid of the meniscal tear symptoms.

Yes it can be: Bakers' cysts are ubiquitus.As people age they become more common because the knee developes more arthritic change and the menisci lose their water content and tear more easily.A meniscus tear can cause a rent in the knee joint capsule and the increased joint fluid your body produces leaks out(to form the popliteal or bakers'cyst).See your ors.Good luck!

Knee effusion: A knee effusion or swelling of the knee will cause pain and stiffness on bending.  You should be evaluated by your orthopedist for the reason why you are swelling and to initiate treatment.  In the meantime ice, elevation and anti-inflammatories may help for the pain and swelling.

Torn meniscus: All people that have knee arthritis have a complex tear of the posterior horn of the medial meniscus. A knee scope will likely not fix your problem as the symptoms you are having are likely the result of your degenerative arthritis and not the meniscus. The meniscus tear is a result of the altered biomechanics from the arthritis.

A torn meniscus can-: - be made worse with minimal loading of the knee. Now it may be displaying or catching and the giving way causes the muscles to let go &amp; hence the feeling of instability. Consult with your orthopedic surgeon.

Plantar fasciitis: I have a good one for that.  Roll your socked foot slowly back forth over a large can, such as a Redpack Tomato Sauce can, turned on its side to stretch out the fascia.  Works great.

Recent study: There was a recent study done in europe comparing surgery for meniscal tears and a sham operation where no meniscus was trimmed.  This was a very well controlled study and there was no difference in outcome.  There is some feeling that some of these surgeries for meniscal tears are not necessary.

Torn meniscus: With any meniscal tear ,avoiding activities which increase pressure on the knee ( and can possibly increase the amount of meniscal tearing) such as kneeling,squatting,crawling,crouching, pivoting,running ,jumping. Is helpful. Walking on the flat or with a small incline is typically okay..
