Yes, But.: But still check with your doctor. Also, if you do, take with a very small sip of water. Some doctors don't want you to take anything that can cause you to vomit/aspirate which can be very problematic.

Vicodin for days: Vicodin, a short acting narcotic is designed for temporary use for acute pain. It is very dangerous for chronic use and if you are taking this chronically it may be best if you get to a pain management specialist.

is it safe to take vicodin for a concussion? i have vicodin from a recent surgery and my headache is awful.

Vicodin: Narcotic medications are certainly not the mainstay of concussion treatment.  See your physician for concussion work up and treatment.  Pain medications can mask serious problems not only cognitively but intracranially.

Why BEFORE?: If you mean, right before the procedure... Maybe.  If you are having it done in a surgery center or hospital, they will give you a lot better meds than just vicodin!  if it is at the doctor's office, just ask the podiatrist if it is ok.  It depends on what other medications are going to be given to you.

Good Question: Is there really any reason to to take the vicodin the day before surgery? Are you in that much pain that tylenol (acetaminophen) is not working? If so, you need to let your oral surgeon know. In any event, only the person administering the anesthesia can authorize the use of sedatives that could adversely affect your care. Give them a call.

Vicodin: This really depends on what type of surgery you had. Typically there is a healing phase and as you heal the requirement for pain medication gets less and less. You should start using less of the vicodin.. Do not use the vicodin if you do not need it.

Physical therapy: A physical therapist can show you what exercises and motions to do and not to in order to limit your pain and strengthen the remaining intact muscles. This can often help alleviate the pain in the meantime. Additionally, there are other topical anti-inflammatory medications that can also improve and treat pain, such as patches or creams. Ask your physician for these and referral to physical therap.

i am having surgery... the me wants to put my on ir nucynta (tapentadol) instead of vicodin. how would it compare to vicodin? what would be an equivalent dose

About equal: The dosing of IR Nucynta (tapentadol) and hydrocodone (the narcotic in Vicodin) are pretty equivalent.  No table I could find shows direct comparison of Vicodin to Nucynta (tapentadol). But 4mg morphine=12mg Hydrocodone. 4mg morphine=10mg Nucynta (tapentadol). So pretty comparable. Hope this helps. Best of luck. Dr. R

Hard to say: It varies from person to person.  One way to check is to stop the medication and see if you develop signs of withdrawal.  I would certainly discuss with your doctor before doing this.

i had oral surgery 12hrs ago. im taking penicillin and vicodin for pain.i was wondering if that can rain bpm?mine now is 90-110.

Generally: The pain can raise your pulse.  If it does not come down consider seeing your doctor for more evaluation.
