Advil (ibuprofen): Unlikely; unless you have an allergic reaction or a sensitive stomach assuming you have taken one of each.

have multiple heart attacks in family history. taking 25mg atenonlol & 81 mg baby aspirin nightly. can i also take advil or ibuprofen for headaches?

Accepted Answer

Yes: All anti-inflammatory medications increase risk for a cardiovascular event (mi, stroke, death).  These risk seems to be associated with higher doses.  So it's best if you take the lowest possible dose for a short duration.  The other concern with nsaids and Aspirin is increase risk for GI bleed.  If you have risk factor for this you have to be cautious and may want to take some zantac (ranitidine) with it.

Although ibuprofen and naproxen have been reported to potentially interfere with the antiplatelet effects of aspirin,12 we found no statistical interaction for aspirin use

Interference: They interfere with each other. If you must take ibuprofen, you should take the Aspirin 1 hour before or at least 4 hours after any Ibuprofen or the Aspirin will not be able to provide the platelet inhibitory ("blood thinning" effect. Ibuprofen does not prevent heart disease and there is data that like other nsaids, it increases it slightly.

i've been taking a daily baby aspirin for several months. i'm also on colchicine and ibuprofen for pericarditis. is it safe to take nattokinase along with these? if not safe, how long after stopping them can i start taking nattokinase?

Yes: Unless a person has kidney problems or uncontrolled high blood pressure, they can still take medications such as Ibuprofen or Aleve (naproxen) even if they take a daily low-dose aspirin.

Maybe....: If you have an inflammatory condition that requires it then yes. But for general purposes I say no. There has been no studies to show low dose NSAIDs are beneficial for "general inflammation reduction". These medications can also be rough on the stomach and cause ulcers and although small but there is a real risk of major bleeding even with 81mg ASA. It's a risk vs. benefit kind of thing.

AVOID: I would avoid the combination. Advil (ibuprofen) may counteract the effects of aspirin.

Accepted Answer

No: Aspirin taken daily can be very beneficial in preventing heart attacks and strokes.  However, not everyone should be on Aspirin therapy as there are medical conditions (ulcers, drug allergies, bleeding disorders, etc.) that could worsen with daily Aspirin use.  In addition, there could be interactions with other medications.  Discuss with your doctor before starting any Aspirin therapy.

shuld i take baby aspirin if my ldl is 150?

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily: Your LDL (bad cholesterol) goal is based on your cardiac risk factors.  So, a level of 150 may be fine if you are a healthy 21 year old marathon runner but too high if you've already had a heart attack.  Baby Aspirin has different risks/benefits based on your age, gender, and health status.  For women older than 50, the benefit may outweigh the risks to prevent stroke, but check with your doctor.
