Accepted Answer

No.: The process of cooking is going to do the same thing as soaking.  Soaking can shorten the cooking time, same as it can with beans, but they digest the same when they're cooked no matter if you soak them or not.

It is fine: I don't think any foods cause diverticulitis. There is no evidence that seeds, nuts, etc can cause diverticulitis. By the time that stuff gets to your colon it is all the same consistency, so i tell my patients not to limit their diet if they have diverticulosis.

You don't use oatml: The preparation used for "oatmeal" baths is not oatmeal. That would produce a gooey mess. During the milling of oats, a fine flour like powder is created as a byproduct. This milling powder is collected, placed in single use packets, & sold to use as a wetting & anti-itch preparation. It is a good product & many patients enjoy it.

Not the same: The material used in the "oatmeal bath" is not oatmeal. There is a fine powder created in the milling of many different grain products & that fine powder (an oat dust if you would) is packaged & sold as an additive for its soothing qualities. I'm suppose you could try this but would be wasting oatmeal & end up with a mess that wouldn't help much.

What is OAT?: I cannot find this acronym in association with treatments for hypertension, so I cannot answer your question. It sounds like you are more concerned with your dad's health than he is, and that will make it unlikely that you can help. Without a medical evaluation of his symptoms, which are very likely related to, if not caused by, excessive drinking and smoking, hard to say. Cut down or stop both!!

Oats are carbs: And, unless it's dark chocolate, it has milk and sugar in it.  There is something called a paleo bar that is better.   Peace and good health.

Define healthy: Eating them raw will mean you will not derive many nutrients from it and it will not be very palatable, but there are no known harms in doing so. Whole grains should be a part of everyone diet unless you have an allergy. Also consider organic spelt, millet, and amaranth known as the ancient grains.

Most raw foods are: More nutritious.  Cooking de-natures the enzymes in food, especially in the micro.  Raw foods are harder to digest.  Par-boiling or soaking in water is a good way to go.  Please be sure anything you eat is thoroughly washed.  Peace and good health.
