Knee ligaments: Severe injuries of the knee involving 2 ligaments &amp; meniscus will require a few months to 6-8 months to recover depending unpinned the selected treatment  .   Non surgical care using a brace , NSAIDs and pt  typically results in some recovery within 2-3 months . Surgery , to include acl reconstruction  , partial menisectomy will require the longer quoted period of time

Meniscus tear: Meniscal tears are painful and as it is a type of "cartilage" the pain comes from swelling in the joint itself - this can last days to weeks. Rest, gentle range of motion, antiinflammatory medications and ice are the mainstay of acute treatment

Ligament: The lateral collaterals are the ligaments that support the bones. The meniscus is the actual joint surface called cartilage.

Depends: Depends on the type of specialist you saw. Obviously you don't want to suffer through your therapy. 'close to my meniscus' means nothing. Did you have an acute injury? Did the knee swell? Is there an effusion? Can you walk on the limb? Recommend following up with your MD or an orthopedic surgeon if that's not who you first saw.

hey there, i went skiing yesterday and ended up skipping on ice and twisting my knee. there is no swelling or bruising. the pain is on the right side of my knee cap and hurts to extend. not sure if its just a sprain or meniscus tear?

Conservative : Use ice, elevation, immobilization, even an OTC knee sleeve, and give it a few days, BUT if persistent symptoms, best to have checked out by orthopedic surgeon.

No: Both cause pain, swelling, and loss of function. Sprains are typically tender over a wider area inside the knee and hurt with or without activity, but then recover over time without any symptoms.  A torn meniscus hurts all the time at first, but tenderness is limited to the joint line.  With time it hurts less but remains swollen and symptomatic, especially with squatting or twisting.

I do not think so: Without the reconstructive surgery i doubt very much you could compete in gymnastic.

Let me explain: Both meniscuses could be shaved to smooth margin and the sprain of the mcl usually heal with no problems, i doubt if you have a good pt you have any big problems.

Torn Meniscus: You cannot know this without the help of an mri. It is worse than a knee sprain.
