Hearing too well: Excessive sensitivity to sound can be an indication of a problem in the sound reception and processing system in your ear and brain. You should consult with an ENT to have an exam and hearing test. Alternately, your problem may have to do with your sleep environment more than your ears.  Your ENT can talk to you about this, too, and may refer you to a sleep specialist. Best of luck.

Whatever works. : My thought on this would be to choose what works. You can get the most expensive equipment, but it may not fit right or may not create a tight seal or may simply be too uncomfortable to use every night. Get what's comfortable and what helps, be it nasal or full-face.

what should you do when your husband has been diagnosed with sleep apnea and won't use the machine?

Get help: Find out why he does not wish to use it and have him see a doctor experienced in treatment of osa.  Often, there are fit or comfort issues that can be remedied.  If CPAP is still not accepted, for some we can treat using oral appliances or reconstructive surgery, if performed by an expert.

Sleep Apnea: Good day;
  Best treatment - loose weight and exercise. Then machine. Try clinic for special fee. If have specific diagnosis and resubmit request may offer equipment to you. Dental appliances for condition not as effective as  machine.

what are the side effects of using a cpap machine for sleep apenia?

It depends.: This depends on what continuous pressure that can be set on your machine so that you can have airway flow when you don't inhale or exhale.  In neonates, pneumothorax is associated with nasal cpap, and can be found in adult users also.  Other side effects include difficulty or pain while breathing and back, neck and muscle pain, thought to be from forced air into the lungs that is not expelled.

Depends: What kind of machine do you have these days most of the machines comes with auto check which adjust the pressure automatically, however you can get an oral appliance made with your CPAP and that lowers the pressure tremendously.

Most likely: You need to have a polysomnogram study by a MD who specializes in Sleep Medicine.  That will diagnose your problem and the best solution.

Calibration: It won't be properly calibrated for you and you could pass germs.
