An U/S of anything: Shows size, shape, and consistency of the tissue, or inconsistencies that are fluid filled (cysts) or solid filled or at least not filled with water density...This can be menstrual cycle dependent as well, and ovaries are on both sides, with the tubes are called adnexa. Fluid in the abdomen acan also be seen. None of this provides a diagnosis: need cells or tissue.

Depends: Ultrasound is very sensitive to proper preparation for the test...A full bladder and no gas is important to see the ovaries adequately.  If the ovaries are well seen then cysts on/in the ovaries are well seen...Need to know how well the technician felt they saw things during the test.

Answers: When  an a woman presents with pelvic pain  or a pelvic  mass,  the  doctor  may suspect an ovarian cyst.  Usually  a pelvic ultrasound will be ordered.  At the time of the ultrasound, warm gel is placed  on the  lower abdomen  while  the  tech  observes the  screen. Vaginal ultrasound  is often done too for a better view of the ovaries.

It should be painles: Sometimes the study is performed wtih abdominal probe in which case a full bladder is necessary to visualize pelvic organs well.  Many times, vaginal probe examination is also performed because this produces superb images as the probe can get very close to the organs being examined.  You will need to empty your bladder for this part of the exam.  Sometimes, 3d images of the ovary may be helpful.

Ovarian cyst: This 31 yo female presented with incidental 9cm ovarian cyst at  post confirmation of  IUD placement . The placement of IUD usually does not require prior ultrasound and it will be good to known why scan was done and the date. It certainly will be unusual for a cyst to grow to 9cm in just 6week and may have started for some time. You may  need to discuss laproscopic cyst removal with your doctor

Means most likely: They are not normal cysts, it depends how large they are and is there one or more than one, most likely they are non cancerous cysts but if you were my patient in coral springs, fl. I would do blood work on you to show that the cysts are non cancerous and then depending on the size and what your symptoms are the cysts may need to be removed or followed, i would have to see the us report to tell.

You won't: I wouldn't be too excited about 5-8mm simple cysts. If they had atypical characteristics you might want them followed but most of the time they would be either developing or regressing follicles. There would be no way for you to be aware of their status without an ultrasound.

i've been told i might  have a ruptured overian cyst i have an ultrasound on tuesday  to confirm i'm in pain and pain killers don't help i'm worried ?

Schedule follow up: Ovarian cysts are incredibly common and the overwhelming majority of them resolve with no treatment. Rarely does someone require pain killers. Ibuprofen is usually sufficient. If your pain is worse then you should be seen by your doctor to evaluate for other causes of pain.

I am sure your: Doc told u that is not serious as many women have that , if the cysts would grow which is unlikely then it could be a problems but that rarely happens if u have small functional cysts, if your periods are irregular or other problems that can often be treated with bc pills unless you are trying for pregnancy.

Ask gynecologist: Ovarian cysts with clear fluid and no solid elements or wall thickening are usually benign Enlargement of ovary by cyst  has increased incidence of ovarian torsion which can cause ischemia/death of ovary.Sometimes reversible. Patient usually presents with acute lower abdominal pain and sometimes vomiting. You should consult gynecologist for advice as to close imaging followup or surg. intervention
