See below : Yes. If the knee swells this can cause swelling to the back of the knee which can cause an out pocketing which can cause pain from stretching of the tissue. Altered gait (walking)because of the associated knee pain and progressive limited range of motion causing further shortening of the calf muscles causing stiffness. . There are other reasons . See below:: Strain of the calf muscles which attach across the back of the knee, will cause pain. A pulled muscles, contusion (bruising) of the calf muscles will also be painful on bending the knee. Serious problem like a clot in the superficial or the deep veins can be a cause....... So do see your doctor urgently to exclude that diagnosis.

Injury: Fluid around the knee can be caused from trauma and/or injury.  The calf may pain may be a resultant spasm from the injury.  I would recommend following up with your pcp and/or pain specialist on this.

?injury: Do you recall any type of injury to the knee? Possibilities include sprain/strain or an inflamed tendon or muscle. Try resting the leg, cold applications for 48 hours and then heat,and if you can take them,NSAIDS like ibuprofen may help. See your Physician if symptoms persist or worsen or if there's any calf swelling or significant calf pain and tenderness as phlebitis would have to be checked for

Get it checked: A locking knee usually has a mechanical reason.  Unfortunately, that will require a mechanical solution.  Get it checked by an Orthopedist cuz exercising on a meniscal tear or unstable knee can have bad outcomes

Yes: If the question is can poor shoes cause those problems, the answer is yes and very common. Due to leg adjustment to walking and causing strain in those areas. Is it the actual cause in you is a bigger question as it is difficult to surmise that without proper examination.  The treatment is change shoes and if you feel the difference, then you can come to a conclusion.

just got my mri report. note is made of a lobular septated 2.6 cm posterior perisynovial ganglion cyst about the knee joint. is this the same as bakers cyst? do you think this caused my calf pain? do i need surgery to remove it? and is it must?

: I can think of all the bones, muscles arteries and veins that are in the area you describe and there are at least 1000 things that can be going on.

Your body is talking to you.  Listen and take good notes. Exactly where does it hurt?  What do you do that makes it worse/better?  How long does it last?  etc  Then share with Dr &amp; you all will be able to figure out what is going on and how to fix it

Pain in leg areas: Your pains seem to be possibly all related to a nerve impingement syndrome.  that condition can cause all those symptoms.  The sciatic nerve innervates your Leg as it exits out the spinal cord in your low back area and travels through the hip providing sensation all the way down to the Toes.  Get an evaluation as this needs to be treated asap.
