4 sets of tonsils: Most people are unaware that there 4 sets of tonsils in the upper respiratory tract.  1.) palatine (throat) tonsils; 2.) adenoids (nasopharyngeal tonsils)  3.) lingual tonsils (tonsils at the base of the tongue) and tonsils at the entrance to the 
eustachian tube (auditory tube).  Together, these are known as waldeyer's ring.

she had her tonsils removed tuesday the 26th. they kept her  extra day in hospital bc she wouldn't drink. she has only peed twice n drank half sip cup?

Needs hydration: Your daughter is experiencing discomfort that is keeping her from maintaining hydration.  She needs to take in more fluids.  Some options you could try are:  give her popsicles to get fluids, give her Tylenol (acetaminophen) before she drinks to ease the pain, ask her ENT for guidelines regarding readmitting her for fluids via IV.

i am experiencing cough (more at night), fatigue, left swollen tonsil and excess saliva. doc put me on amoxicillin, had this for over a week?

Virus? Allergy?: Most illnesses like this are due to common respiratory viruses or allergies, and these do not respond to any kind of antibiotic. Perhaps amoxicillin was worth a try, but no surprise it hasn't helped. Check back with the doctor treating you. Good luck!

i'm 24, and had my tonsils and adenoids out 8 days ago.i have white patches on my uvula. why? did they touch it or is it extra coming off my throat?

Why: You had surgery and don't know why? I would start by asking the surgeon. Presumably you had highly enlarged tonsil and they may have been interfering with your airway, but a group of internet doctors can't know what actually happened to you.

i was eating skittles earlier, and now i have an odd taste in my mouth, and it kind of feels like an extra layer of skin in my mouth.

Junk Food: Candy and other junk foods are loaded w/chemicals and sugar that the body does not recognize.  If this persists please see your doctor.  Peace and good health.  Dark chocolate (80% or more) is a better choice.

i have large bumps on the back of my tongue, bad breathe, white patches on my tongue, and extra mucus. i have a feeling its oral herpes, if it is will i ever get my tongue back to normal and mouth back to normal. is there something i can take?

Probably not hsv: The symptoms of oral herpes are painful blisters, or ulcerations on your lips or the inside of your mouth.  Herpes does not cause any lesions on the tongue.  Make sure to brush your teeth regularly and consider seeing a doctor for the other symptoms as it could be a sign of another infection

what causes extra saliva in the mouth at night?

Could be many things: Besides sinus issues, infections, gastric reflux and drug side effects which should be rulled out with an examination,  I have found that the most common cause is an ill fitting denture, temporary flipper, mouthguard or sleep apnea device.  Also there are many different rare causes of excessive saliva that include things like parkinsons disease, and myasthenia gravis.  See your dentist.

why do some people produce extra saliva in their mouth?

Thick Saliva: Thick saliva can be caused by dehydration, post nasal drip, allergies, sinusitis, upper respiratory infections, diabetes, hypoglycemia and radiation therapy. Also foods, chemo and medications.

she is developing a lot of mucus in her mouth and this makes swallowing difficult.  what can we do to reduce the excess mucus?

Consider these...: Difficulty swallowing ("dysphagia") can be distinguished as a "transfer" problem (difficulty moving food from mouth to top of esophagus), "transit" problem (difficulty moving food down the esophagus), "spasm", gerd (due to sphincter problems), or obstructive (webs, rings, strictures, ulcer, tumor). Maybe this is larygneal reflux/GERD. Best to see a GI doctor for evaluation &amp;  treatment options.

have dissolvable suture inside my left side of my mouth and i feel that the excess suture is sticking to my inner skin/flesh near where i have  suture?

Accepted Answer

How old is it?: If it is just a tail from the suture, could trim it with small scissor. If recently placed, could also call dr who placed it for check / trim vs removal. It will eventually go away on its own, but can be months in some folks & can be annoying while there.
