4 sets of tonsils: Most people are unaware that there 4 sets of tonsils in the upper respiratory tract. 1.) palatine (throat) tonsils; 2.) adenoids (nasopharyngeal tonsils) 3.) lingual tonsils (tonsils at the base of the tongue) and tonsils at the entrance to the eustachian tube (auditory tube). Together, these are known as waldeyer's ring.
