It is possible: The rounded appearance of the ovaries can be deceiving; in the embryo, when the ovaries descend into the fetal pelvis some cells may trail behind and be left outside the ovary.  In addition, ovarian tissue is really somewhat comet shaped, with cells distributed along the ligament which is cut at surgery.  These cells may become oca.  Other cells body lining cells may also transform into oca as well.

Yes: A yearly check of the ovary at your gynecologist is your best prevention. Ovarian cancer is fairly common and this is worth doing.

Not likely: In most women that have a total hysterectomy there is no ovarian tissue left, so the risk of ovarian cancer is very very low.  However, some women who have a hysterectomy prior to going through menopause have an ovary left to help support hormone function.  These women still have a risk of developing ovarian cancer.

Just ask GYN MD: You need to consult with a local GYN MD and ask for the procedure after undergoing BRAC gene testing if you have not already tested positive. At age 39 you will need hormone replacement therapy if you go through with the procedure to prevent osteoporosis and other complications of  long term estrogen deprivation

Frozen section,,,: What is done during surgery for this or other operations for malignancy is usually a frozen section, not a biopsy.  This is taken so the doctors know if there is tumor or if they got all the tumor if there is one.  The results are reported at that time but it is preliminary.  The official result comes after surgical dissection and examination and takes 2-3 days.  Then the dr. Tells the pt.

i was diagnosed with ovarian cancer with the removal of my left ovary. i m 19 years old. what precautions should i take in my future?? can i will get pregnant without any complications?

Glad you're better: At your age (19), it's likely that your tumor was a dysgerminoma, which is almost always curable with today's methods, or a granulosa cell tumor which is not very aggressive -- if in fact your tumor was really a cancer. There's nothing special to do afterwards and probably you'll be able to become a mother if the other ovary is good and it is your wish.

my mom is having half of her colon removed in the morning and her dr. would also like to prevent ovarian cancer by removing her ovaries. is that good?

Probably unnecessary: Unless there is a genetic syndrome, there would be no role for this.  Maybe it would be appropriate to do a ct scan of the abdomen and pelvis first.  However, i would not recommend the ovaries to be removed.  Hope this helps.
