Hep C yes!: If the dried blood that touched the mucous membrane of your eyes is infected with the Hep C virus, than yes there is a possibility you could get infected from that exposure. Hep C is very resistant and can stay vital on any surface for weeks. The AIDS virus really can't live outside a host cell very long, so you at very low risk for getting AIDS. If you are worried, get tested.

Unlikely: If not impossible, highly unlikely.  Hep c is predominantly transmitted by transfusions (now very rarely in usa), by sharing needles during drug use, possibly but infrequently sexually, by organ transplantation, or other intimate contacts of this nature.

No: Hepatitis will not be transmitted in this fashion.

No Chances: As long as the eye was rinsed within a minute or two there is no risk of contacting hepatits c in this setting.

Hep C is not herpes: Hepatitis c and herpes simplex (cold sore) are different viruses and are not related. Hepatitis is most commonly w/o any symptoms although it can be seen with abdominal pain, yellowing of skin and eyes, discoloration of stool and urine. It takes more than one day for either hepatitis c or herpes to develop. Most likely you have been exposed to herpes previously and it just came out at this point.

Zero: I'm sorry you got splashed, but it won't make you sick with either illness. Please remember that most husbands with HIV and/or hepatitis C do not infect their wives even after years of unprotected intercourse. Triggered anxiety: I am so sorry to hear about your misfortune. There are several types of anxiety. I can't diagnose yours with the information available, but i can say this about it. It is not uncommon for any of the anxiety disorders to be either situational or triggered in nature. Since it came via an emotional response to information which comes through your thoughts, it would stand to reason that it can be shut off using thought or cognitive therapy.Please find a therapist near you who practices cbt. : In theory it may happen if the victim is positive for hep C or HIV but in reality, the chance of infection is almost nil, you do not need to worry. You are a great samaritan.

i am being treated for hep c genotype 3. i take 400 mg copegus (ribavirin) 2x day and 180mcg peginterferon 1x week. i've developed mouth sores and burning. it hurts to eat. is this a reaction to the meds?

Most likely: If there is no other identifiable cause for the above, adverse effects to the medications is the only explainable choice. You are to talk to your treating doc about that as well.

Extremely unlikely: i have not heard of one instance of this occurring in the literature. I would recommend flushing your eye though with clean water to minimize other bacterial or viral infections.
