i had my first cold sore in april on upper lip edge , followed by a translucent looking pimple on forehead which had big white head in few days (this was in july) is it also a cold sore ? i tested positive for hsv 1. can i get cold sores on forehead?

: It would be rare to have an HSV1 outbreak on the forehead, but not impossible. If you have similar sores in the same location, herpes would be more likely. If not, probably that one episode was not herpes.

i use an electric toothbrush. i get cold sores frequently. how can i sanitize my toothbrush? at $22 per head i cannot afford to replace each time.

White vinnegar: Excellent for cleaning dilute. 50/50 with water half hour soak. Rinse copius amounts of water.

Possible but unlikel: Hi Roy. It's possible for someone to shed the herpes virus and be asymptomatic. People with oral herpes may secrete the virus 2% to 9% of the time when they are not having sores. That being said, if they are asymptomatic and secreting the virus, the amount of virus being shed is much less. You can be tested for infection.  I would recommend knowing your sex partner And both of you testing  for STD

i have had cold sores for years. sometimes i don't have symptoms prior or i at least don't notice. the bump just appears. i kissed my kids cheek/head & husband but on his mouth hours before this cold sore appeared today. will they get cold sore now?

: Unlikely the kids will it as they were kissed on the head/ cheek. Since you intermittently get cold sore avoid kissing children on the eyes or mouth or any mucus membrane(as can shed w/o symptoms). There may be some risk to your husband. How often do you get cold sores? If several times a year  discuss with your physician suppressive therapy with  Valacyclovir or even consider Lysine 500  mg /day

There is some: possibility of spreading a cold sore even when there is not an active lesions.

Yes: Herpes virus is usually shed when a visible sore is present; however, the virus can be present even without a sore showing. You usually need to have a portal of entry for the virus to infect you (cut, dry lips, etc). But is you have been exposed before and have anti bodies against the herpes virus you have be able to fight it off. Wearing lip stick, lip gloss or chapstick will help protect you.

HSV: Hsv causes cold sores which are usually outside of the oral cavity. Perhaps you are referring to a canker sore.

Yes: The virus can lie dormant until it expresses again.

Possible: He may develop shallow sores inside his mouth along with gum swelling as well.

Herpes simplex: This virus can be transmitted by oral sex with or without the presence of active lesions. On the other hand, if you have been intimate with the other party previously they probably have already been infected. Discuss the options with your partner.
