If the: excision was complete (micro-surgery) and it had cancer the recurrence rate is very low!
If the mole was benign..there is no ongoing risk of cancer!

Dermatologist: I would start with a dermatologist. Some skin lesions can have a shave biopsy, others need a punch biopsy (to go deeper), and some may be in areas that the dermatologist will recommend seeing a plastic surgeon. Of course, a primar care doctor can also review the skin and may help characterize common skin problems.

had a mole removed 2 weeks ago on my leg.  it was black with a bit pink and size of a pencil eraser.  anyway went back to get my results and the dr told me that the mole is very active and that they going to do more test. does it sound like cancer?

Mole: A black skin lesion that is of concern is usually a melanoma. Typically the are managed by excising the melanoma.  Most people will undergo a Mohs microgaphic surgery to accomplish this.

i have a lot of moles i have my entire life. i get checked yearly at the derm. i just noticed a new mole? on my nipple which has never happened. is this worrisome? does this mean cancer? i did have a baby 4 months ago is that why i could have it?

: The only way to know what it is for certain would be to have your dermatologist check it. It is not possible to diagnose it without seeing it. It could be pregnancy-related due to hormone changes. But, have it checked by your dermatologist. Good luck to you!

Moles and cancer: Many moles is a risk factor for skin cancer. Melanoma usually arises on normal skin, only 20% of the time in a mole.Studies show that tanning, especially in tanning salons, increases risk of skin cancer regardless of number of moles. Melanoma risk is very small before age 12, but rises sharply after that. The more sun damage, the bigger skin cancer risk. New/changing lesions must be seen by derm.
