Not recommended: The patch is designed to deliver a constant and predictable amount of hormone. By cutting it, you will ruin the integrity of the patch leading to erratic hormone release and most likely suboptimal dose. If the dose is suboptimal, you might as well not use it at all as it can do more harm than good, especially if you are dealing with a hormone. Talk to your doc. There might be cheaper alternatives.

daughters using climara (estradiol) 100mg patch cut in half , replaced every 7 days. after a day the patch is a bit frayed on the edges. is it still doing its job?

Not recommended: Cutting the patch in half ruins the integrity of the delivery system thereby affecting the absorption of the intended dose. Climara (estradiol) comes in a 0.05 dose as well. I recommend getting that patch instead of cutting the 0.1 patch.

No. Don't cut patch!: Most patches are not designed to be cut (lidoderm is an exception). As this may affect its efficacy. From the www.Androderm.Com website: "do not use an androderm® patch if the pouch seal is broken or the patch is cut, damaged, or changed in any way. Throw it away and get a new one." if you're not satisfied w/your response to your current dose, talk to your doc & get your levels checked.

4-7 days: The person who did the repair should be consulted.  While the forehead has a good blood supply and heals rapidly, since it is prominent, you will want a good cosmetic result   Check with the physician who did the repair or with a pediatrician.

Wait it out: If you are only one week after a skin infection- you are within the inflammatory phase that follows the infection.  So- your skin will undergo changes until it becomes more 'normal'. Wait a couple of weeks and it should improve..

my 7 yo son has a patch on his tongue that is a darker shade than the rest. looks like someone cut a layer off. rest is whiteish. no pain. any ideas?

Geographic tongue: There are some that demonstrate a process called the geographic tongue. This is more descriptive as sometimes it can look like continents (gray) surrounded by sea (pink-red). The tongue is populated by thick cells that accumulate & turn grayish.They shed periodically, replaced by newer pink-red cells. If older cells separate in a big patch, this appearance is seen. It is benign.
