Probably not: assuming you have no skin breaks yourself, the odds of catching something in this situation is very unlikely. It would be good to wash off well at the earliest possible chance you have, however. Good luck.

Theoretical risk: Hepatitis transmission is possible. Wouldn’t worry about anything else. Make sure you are vacinnated against hepatitis B and ask your doctor about hepatitis C testing. I’ve gotten hepatitis C blood in my eyes and luckily not infected. Hopefully that can reassure you for now. I wouldn’t return to that phlebotomy site.

Yes and No: HIV is a very fragile virus and usually dies when exposed to air or light for a short time.However ,other infections such as hepatitis B or C can live up to 7 days/4 days respectively in dried blood.

No: I would say the chances are pretty slim of catching any disease this way.  There is no risk of catching HIV this way.  The most contagious virus would be hepatitis B, and the odds of the blood being contaminated by this virus is very small in Canada. The entire country only had 2000 known cases out of a population of 35 million!   Pretty slim odds of coming in contact with Hep B!

Low risk: If the blood is from an infected person and it gains entry into a sore on your skin or mucus membrane you could acquire the infection, but the risk is low. Please inform the authorities so that the spot may be neutralized.

: HIV, Hepatitis B or C cannot be transmitted through above mentioned mechanism from inanimate surfaces. Hand hygiene rules still apply as to risk for transmission for other bacteria including hepatitis A.

: HIV can be transmitted through blood-to-blood contact, sharing needles, or unprotected sexual intercourse with an infected person. Hepatitis C can also be transmitted through blood-to-blood contact, sharing needles, or from mother to child during childbirth. HIV is not easily transmitted through dried blood, as the virus becomes inactive once it is outside of the body. Be careful get checked.

Yes, common: As the blood dries and hemoglobin oxidizes, it will look darker red to brown to black.

Accepted Answer

That might happen.: Brown blood is older and deoxygenated.
