can a salivary gland tumor be diagnosed with just a physical exam such as looking at it and feeling it from a ent? i was diagnosed with a blockage not tumor in paratoid. no tests. it doesnt hurt now but is still swollen. thank u. just concerned?

: Salivary glands can indeed get a sialolith (small stone) that can plug a duct. since the gland keeps making saliva and there's no drain...they swell and can get very uncomfortable.  Sometimes the pressure pushes out the stone.  but you might` need it drained.  Go see an oral surgeon.

The salivary glands produce an important digestive enzyme, called amylase, that helps to break down starches and liquefy the food in the chewing phase of digestion.  The saliva also helps to keep the mouth moist and helps control the bacteria that produce cavities and plaque formation.  Do you have a problem?

Hunger: I'm not sure what you mean.  You'll salivate if you're hungry.  If your salivary glands are swollen, they could be blocked with a stone or thick mucus.  Dehydration can be part of the problem there, also infection, and sometimes autoimmune disease.

Many things: Overactive salivary glands are usually nothing to worry about.  Salavia is produced depending on your diet, spicy  and acidic foods will increase production.  So the first thing to do is change your diet.
Some medications  as well as some medical cinditions can cause an increase in salvia.  Some conditions that can cause this are gerd, infections, , allergies, stroke, pregnancy, bell's palsy , more.

Enlarged gland: If on the neck it is not a salivary gland.  It's most probably a lymph gland.  Should be seen immediately to discover cause and appropriate cure.  If a lymph gland, yes, lymphoma is a possibility.  See your GP or an ENT for differential diagnosis.
