if pap results come back i have lsil does it mean i have high risk hpv or could it be due to just having hpv ?

LSIL from HPV: It is probably a high risk HPV that is causing the changes in the cells of your cervix.  Frequently a pap will also report whether there is high or low risk HPV present.  In my office, the lab that does the paps automatically checks for HPV on abnormal paps.

Recommend: a colposcope exam of the cervix to look with a 10x magnification of cervix, for potential pre cancerous cells that can be treated to prevent cervical cancer.

Accepted Answer

Several high risk: There are over 150 related hpv like cancers and thete are at least a dozen high risk hpv subtypes that can cause cancer.  Two of these types 16 and 18 are responsible for the majority of hpv related cancers.  Hope this helps.

: You do not pass this back &amp; forth like a strep throat. You acquire the germ strain, spread it to partners for the first 1-2 yrs, then go dormant. You don't catch the same strain again nor would a partner who was infected with the strain.  You would both become immune to the strain &amp; go dormant. It  rarely reactivated but can trigger pre-cancer/cancer years or decades later.

: No, HPV cannot cause such symptoms, only localized manifestations.

: HPV is the only known cause of LSIL, but usually with low risk types of the virus. Inflammatory changes on Pap sometime are due to other infections (e.g. gonorrhea or chlamydia), but in most cases no cause can be found; PCOS is not a likely cause. With or without inflammatory changes, LSIL usually clears up on its own -- so your situation is normal and expected. No worries about high risk HPV.

HPV: It doesn't specify which of the 13 you may have been exposed to.  Women with HPV 16 and 18 are much more inclined to develop cervical dysplasia (precancer) and cancer.  You may want to ask if your physicians office offers a test more specific to types 16 and 18.

HPV testing: HPV testing is done by a lab , and the types causing the most cancer are 16 and 18.  There are other types which can cause cancer, and the lab will comment in the report as to the types present.  The pap smear will detect any abnormal cytologic changes and your gyn physician will treat accordingly.

there were about 4 small scratches on the penis and vaginal discharge were spread over the scratches does this cause high risk hpv transmission?will high risk hpv spread in my body?

Accepted Answer

: If your partner has definitive HPV, contact will usually be transmitted if the skin is broken (small "scratches" ).  If lesions do appear, see a urologist for an exam and treatment.
