i have had numbness in my face that switches from one side to another and sometimes my whole face for about 2 months now . i will also get numbness in my left side of head and right . could this b signs of a stroke or something else ? i do have nerve dama

Many items: The fluctuation from side to side is unlikely to be due to a stroke or even focal decreased blood vessel flow.  Many migraine patients due experience problems with auras, and this can include facial numbness, and, if headaches are associated perhaps this is the answer.  But clearly, this is troubling you, and need to have evaluated by your doctor.

is feeling light-headed and losing balance when walking a sign of impending stroke?

Accepted Answer

Get evaluated : When someone is light-headed they tend to lose their balance.  It's a fairly non-specific symptom.  At 35 years old the chances of you having a stroke is very low.  However you should see your doctor to get to the bottom of this light-headedness as it could be from multiple things.  That being said, some strokes present with loss of balance and 'light-headedness'.  Please see your doctor.

Unlikely: More likely it is a problem with your rotator cuff in your shoulder.  Please see your doctor for evaluation.

Not always a stroke: You should see a neurologist, without knowing more about your exam and presentation it might help to point out that numbness may not necessarily due to a stroke in the brain matter. All points of the pathway between the sensory receptors in the skin, the connecting nerves, and the brain itself may be affected.

Stroke Symptoms: General symptoms of a stroke include: sudden numbness, tingling, weakness, or loss of movement in your face, arm, or leg, especially on only one side of your body.  Sudden vision changes or trouble speaking.  Confusion or trouble understanding simple statements. Problems with walking or balance.  A sudden, severe headache that is different from past headaches.

Muscle tension: You are more likely clenching your teeth tightly and and causing the symptoms you describe.  If these do not resolve fairly quickly or you develop weakness prompt physician evaluation is necessary.

MRI is best : Stroke symptoms are variable but a brain MRI will detect even very small stokes almost immediately.  Ct scanning, although cheaper and faster, can miss small strokes or very early strokes.

my mother is on beta blockers for palpitations. she now sometimes feels dizziness, has sudden floaters in eyes, occasional head pain. stroke signs?

Floaters, dizziness: The beta blockers stop the bodies ability to suddenly increase the blood pressure when needed such as getting up from being seated or laying down. It takes a few moments for the nervous system to tell the arteries to increase the pressure to maintain blood flow to the brain hence the transient dizziness. The new floaters are probably from a vitreous detachment in the affected eye. normal issue.

Not usually: Most commonly, visual events as described may be noted with migraine, vitreous or retinal detachments, syncopal episodes, and low blood pressure, but maybe, one could consider a transient ischemic attack if other answers seem implausible.

Not a stroke: Could be due to mastoiditis, ear infection, jaw or dental issues, or even greater occipital neuralgia.
