Not Pancreatitis: Right sided back pain and back pain in general can have many causes. Your pancreas is on the left side of the abdomen, and although can cause back pan, not usually on the right. Right sided back pain can be anything from your kidney to a muscle spasm. If you are at all concerned and have other symptoms, an evaluation by a physician would be helpful.

: There are many other causes for a mildly elevated lipase other than pancreatitis. In your case, the reason for the bleeding, such as bowel inflammation, among others may be causing the elevated lipase. Your gastroenterologist remains your best reference in trying to sort it out.

Low fat diet: Low fat diet for sure. Sometimes you have to do gut rest by fasting or drinking water when there is a flare up. Try to enroll in a clinical trial at an academic center. You will need pain medication for your pain.

i have chronic pancreatitis and at first believed this were causing my severe back pain. however, in absence of a flare up, severe back pain in lower/middle area continues, affects daily life. helped by diazepam. what could be causing this? thanks?

: You may have spine problem and paraspinal muscle spasm which are completely separated from chronic pancreatitis. Diazepam can be helpful because it relieves the spasm somewhat but this should not be used because of its addicted effect. You need a spine exam and CT or MRI of the thoracolumbar area for a correct diagnosis and treatment.

Depends: If you've had the pain for eight days it is less likely to be pancreatitis as by now it would have gotten so bad you would have gone to the er by now. If you can still eat and drink enough and it doesn't cause the pain to increase, then you probably could wait for your appointment.

have been experiencing severe stomach & back pain, pain after eating and fatigue for approximately 4 months now.. diagnosed with severe grove pancreatitis , also had bowel obstruction. hospitalised twice.. is this acute or chronic pancreatitis? thnx?

Both acute/chronic : Technically this is acute relapsing pancreatitis. Regardless of name, potentially very serious. Often caused by an abnormality in the pancreatic or common bile duct. Probably need an abdominal MRI scan (or similar), perhaps transfer to a tertiary care center (if feasible).
