Sometimes: There are different degrees of infection. If the wound shows a little redness at the periphery you should be able to treat it with a topical antibiotic. However, with more redness, swelling, pain or warmth you should see a doctor. Streaking of the redness away from the wound would be a sign of a more significant infection that would also need medical attention.

It is not normally : It is an antibacterial cream containing silver sulphadiazine and mostly used as an antibacreial crem for burns, short term treatment of leg ulcers and pressure sores and to prevent the infection in skin grafts.It is not used for treatment of skin infection not related to the above mentioned conditions.

Fungus: Your question suggests that you are referring to nail fungus. It is essential to remove as much extra infected nail as reasonable without causing damage to the underlying tissue. Any otc  cream can help but if there are no results within about 2 weeks, you may need medication that your doctor can prescribe.

No cream for cut: if the cut is indeed infected, it is unlikely the doctor would just "give cream."    if you feel it is infected, be seen by a health care provider.   bacterial infections most often require oral antibiotics.

Possible but slight: virsuses can live outside the body for short period of time (like seconds, most article say &lt; 10 seconds, ) but longer in damp conditions. So, very unlikely unless your friend had just used the medication.

Basics: Any moisturizing cream like aloe or a mild hydrocortizone can help healing. However, the main disruption to the skin is a process that can take 2-3 weeks to heal primarily &amp; 6-8 wks to look normal.

May need a visit: Sometimes these can become invaded by staph germs and need prescription medication to recover. Using a warm compress for a while can improve blood flow &amp; may allow you natural healing response to work better. However, a visit &amp; testing may be needed if this does not help.

: I use frequent lukewarm baths to remove the salty sweat that triggers the itch by invading the wounds. I also use Benadryl or other antihistamines. I do not find creams helpful. I find Calamine irritating and stinky.

See doc.: Whenever a treatment is not working or starting to work after 2-3 days, get checked again and/or call the doc today. You may be on the wrong medication or actually having problems from the meds. Creams can cause local reactions in some people and complicate the picture as it can be hard to tell if an infection is getting worse or the cream is causing increased symptoms not due to infection.

can i get c diff by taking 2 courses of clindamycin for bv?was re infected during 1st course. would adding the cream increase chance of c diff?

You are at risk: of getting C. difficile due to the recent courses of antibiotics, but not everyone who takes antibiotics gets C. diff.  Adding topical cream will not increase your risk for C. diff.
