: Once a person gets mumps they are usually protected for life. However, in a case of mumps, often the swelling on one side can be delayed. So likely this is just one prolonged case of mumps.

Both: Zymotic is an old term used for conditions that are endemic or epidemic.   Goiter is a condition of the thyroid that occurs usually from low iodine and could be endemic to an area.  Mumps is a viral infection and while due to immunizations is not frequently found but in the past could become epidemic.  
You would have to be more specific for a better answer.

Confusing issue: The swelling of the salivary glands can be caused by the mumps virus and can involve more one side than the other.The illness runs its course and after resolution you don't see the other side infected weeks/months/years later. The first infection gives permanent immunity.However, you can have non-mumps infections in either set of glands and if bacterial they may recur.

Only one mumps: Parotitis , the single or doublesided swelling of the parotid gland is the classical feature of mumps. There is one mumps virus. However, there are multiple other viruses and some bacteria that can cause infection/swelling in the parotid glands. Just having swollen parotid glands does not mean you have mumps.

See a Dr.: Mumps causes painful swelling of the salivary glands and testicles. One or both may be involved, but the swelling resolves in both areas after 10-14 days. If one testicle is large and firm a year later, there may be a different problem. See a Dr (urologist) for a thorough exam and to determine the cause and treatment. Causes may include infections, hernias, tumors or varicocele/hydrocele.
