Accepted Answer

No: A smell would indicate either poor oral hygiene, food and plaque accumulation, caries (decay) or a periodontal problem.  See you dentist to determine the cause of the problem and what needs to be done to correct this issue.

Maintain : Maintain your veneers by visiting your dentist for regular cleanings/polish.
Most if not all restorations (veneers, crowns, etc) usually need replacing at some point in your lifetime, but the better you take care of them, the longer they will last.

Porcelain veneers ususally maintain their gloss and color a very long time vs. Composite veneers which lose their luster much quicker.  Staying away from coffee, tea, cola and cigarette will help maintain the color on your veneers longer.

Depends: Advice, get preapproval so you know for sure that you have coverage.  Ins. Companies have all kinds of exclusions, so proceed cautiously.

is there a difference between tooth bonding and porcelain veneers? i've been a smoker for years but have quit, and would like a new white smile to celebrate that fact. i'm having a hard time telling the difference between dental boding and porcelain venee

Congratulation! : Congratulation!  I am happy that you quite smoking.  It is wonderful.
The only difference is actually the material.
It is possible to veneer (cover the whole front surface) of a tooth with composite bonding material.  However, it will not be as strong as a porcelain veneer covers, and will not hold a stable color.  The composite materials are more porous and will stain quicker.
The porcelain veneers are much stronger and hold the shape and color for a much longer period of time.  However, they are actually put into place with essentially the same composite bonding material and over time, the "edges" of the veneers will discolor and can leak and de-bond, requiring the replacement of the veneers.
The best was to make a change, if the teeth are in good shape and position and the only thing you desire is a color change, is a good cleaning and high power, in office bleaching (chemically, or light activated bleach will give you excellent results).
If you are looking to also change the shape of your teeth, then porcelain veneers will give you the longest lasting, best looking result.  They will also cost you far more than bonding.
You should talk to your dentist about the benefits and contra-indications of the procedures before you commit to any work.

The : The only real difference is that a veneer only covers the front of the tooth.  A crown will go all the way around.  The amount of tooth loss needed to be replaced dictate whether  or a veneer or a crown is to be used.
Properly made crowns and veneers, buy a quality dentist and laboratory are indistinguishable.
Veneers are usually used to correct minor tooth shape and color issues.  If a more extensive correction is needed, properly made crowns, which cover the rest of the tooth, will last longer.

had a root canal two years ago, now gum above tooth and under nostril is tender,  had veneers put on.  ?

Sound like: The root canal may need to be retreated or that you have another tooth acting up. I would see an endodontist or my dentist for an evaluation.

are there any advancements on the horizon (next 5-10 years maybe) that would enable treating black triangles between teeth by addressing bone/gum instead of filling the space with veneers/crowns/composite? is it conceptually possible down the road?

See a periodontist..: if your dark triangles are up by your gums, then you can see a periodontist about a gingivitis graft to "fill them in".
I'm confident you'll get good results if you are a good candidate. I'm guessing you have gingivitis loss due to heredity, poor oral hygiene,, or a bad habit like smoking.  Either way..go get a consult from a periodontist and then maybe you'll smile BIG.

i am dissapointed with my new veneers. dentis is not willing to make new as he claimes he asked me before putting on cement if i like the color. i am confused..if cement changes the color how is it possible for a patient to determine final result?

: The cement doesn't change the color only the mind changes the color. I always show the patient the shades of any types of crowns, veneers, dentures before placing in their mouth. The only problem that could have occurred with you is the lighting in the room was dark and the shade was good for you. If too light than they can be stained darker.

Smile bigger?: They can make your teeth larger, if that is what you want. But they will not make your mouth open more than it now does so that you can see more of your teeth.

Accepted Answer

Sure but...: I wouldn't advise it, either for your temporary veneers or the rest of your body.
