Would not: Melatonin is produced in the brain to help maintain the body's internal clock. So when it is dark you produce more and when it is light you do not make as much, therefore it is intended for sleep. Try to find the root of your anxiety as a first step and consider looking in to the herbal passion flower that has been used for anxiety. Also research GABA that is known to affect anxiety.

Melatonin: Yes it will but it works best when taken 30-60 minutes before bed and also when you stay in a darkened environment prior to sleep. So keep the room you sleep in dark and it will have a better effect. Other short acting sedatives such as zaleplon may also be of help, particularly for shift work.

Melatonin: Ck w/your doc first and don't take w/other sleeping meds or if pregnant. Melatonin (a hormone) can be helpful for sleep.  Take one hour prior to going to bed and a very small dose--many folks take 1 or 2 mg.  Peace and good health.  I've not seen any "hang over" side effects.  Peace and good health.

Melatonin is not: a drug, it is a hormone.  it is best taken under the guidance of a doctor.  It is taken at a very low dose.  You may be taking too much.  It is taken 1 hour prior to sleep. Peace and good health.

Some thoughts: The half life is the scientific term for when 1/2 of the original dose has left the body. It is considered gone in 4 half lives. For melatonin the cited half life is up to an hour. However, for some prolonged use or high doses can lead to side effects like dizziness or sleepiness. It can take 6 mo off any melatonin supplement for this to clear. Try cutting the dose or skipping it for a while.

i am always tired but i can't sleep, when i do its so hard nothing will wake me up and i have constant headaches. what's wrong? i've tried melatonin and no caffiene after a certain point and no naps during the day, but nothing helps.
