Yes Possibly: However at your age, unless you have a string family history of heart attacks at young age i wouldn't be so concerned.  Most likely its heartburn/gerd, but to really sure i would speak with your doctor further about this.

GER: You have gastroesophageal reflux. Please see your health provider for treatment or try OTC antacid treatment and see if you get better.

Unlikely: Those symptoms are very unlikely to be cardiac in origin especially in a 32 year old.

on protonix for 4 wks now & day i can still feel heartburn at times and ea night def feel it (never in my throat ever just burning sensation in my left side of chest). fully checked out heart two weeks all ok there.  ppi not working? egd scheduled

Sometimes: the addition of an "H-2" blocker eg: PECID AC 20-40 mgm tablets (Over the counter ZANTAC another example. may help CALM DOWN the effect of the acid while PROTONIX and or other "Proton Pump Inhibitors" take over~

can you have sharp pain in your side from heart burn? i have been having very sharp pains in my left side, under my ribs and also feeling that my throat is full and raw, but not like a sore throat raw. i have gerd and wonder if this is what's wrong.

Dr. or ER can check: Strange left side pains, pain under the front ribs, and odd pains in the throat in a person in her 60's means a trip to the doctor. Sometimes it is an infection that is showing up in an unusual manner. But, having six decades behind her, other things can be happening. The doctor can check the heart, lungs, tummy, etc... to make sure it is not something serious, like a heart problem.

Any time someone...: ...says a symptom of any kind is severe, it's time to see a doctor.  I don't know what heart problems you have, but angina (heart pain from a blocked artery in the heart) can be felt in the neck, shoulder, arm or hand.  Putting "severe" and "heart problems" together tells meet you need to see your doctor about this.  NOW!  Best wishes.  Dr. Anne

Not often: Laryngopharyngeal reflux can cause ear symptoms, usually one sided pain or pressure. Itching is not common although possible. Avoid qtip use and see someone who can look in the ears and rule out an otitis externa or eczema.

See details: There are certain rheumatologic disorders that can be associated with both heartburn (reflux) and joint symptoms. See a rheumatologist for an evaluation. You can try over-the-counter Prilosec or Prevacid (lansoprazole) daily for the heartburn in the meanwhile.

Acid reflux: Backflow of stomach contents (not just acid) comes up the esophagus, and irritates the tissues of the throat; can cause hoarseness, chronic cough, throat clearing, as well as vocal cord problems, such as nodules, granulomas, etc.  See md for lifestyle and medical rx. Avoid fried, greasy, fatty foods, alcohol, coffee, peppermint, large meals, lying down after eating.  Elevate head of bed at night.
