: Autoimmune disease is when the body defense system thinks that a part of the body is foreign and attacks it - causing specific symptoms. Low or poor response to an external threat eg HIV triggers a normal response against it but in people with a weakness in the immune system causes the disease/ let it progress. So they are two different things.

Nucleic acid test: You could get a HIV nucleic acid test. If that is negative at 22 weeks after exposure, you would be home free. It is true that antibodies sometimes can take up to year, but the nucleic acid will obviate that shortcoming.
