A member asked:

Is delayed hiv seroconversion a problem for 4th generation hiv tests? i know its rare and antibody can take a year ive tested 4th gen after 6 months it was negative? is 4th generation used to detect rare cases of delayed antibodies?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

4th gen tests for both antibodies and antigen. Even if a person does not make antibodies, antigen would be detectable at 6 months or sooner. If the 4th gen test is negative at 6 months after exposure, you do not have HIV. Safe sex: https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/wellness-and-prevention/safer-sex-guidelines
