is yogurt a decent source of probiotics while recovering from gastroenteritis (once you have started back with chicken broth and crackers at least and are 48 hrs passed the last diarrahea episode )?  and can i take tums (calcium carbonate) for heartburn?

Ans: Yogurt is beneficial to the gi track. So this is good. You can take runs but for short time. Best for you to drink water exercise and quit the junk foods and fatty foods

how can i help stomach ache/pain from antibiotic usage? i've taken cvs brand probiotics, but no relief. can i take tums/pepto? any other suggestions?

It depends...: ...a lot on the particular antibitoic(s) you are taking. Some can be taken with food or antacids to reduced stomach upset, but there are a few for which antacids may reduce absorption and effectiveness. Also, severe pain or diarrhea could mean a serious side effect that needs treatment. Contact the doctor or clinic where the antibiotic was prescribed.

nothing is soothing my acid reflux, have tried tums,pepcid ,probiotics. everything i eat causes acid to come back up and burn throat, and then throat swells. should i go to urgent care or try prilosec first?

: You can try high dose prilosec first, 40 mg, twice a day + anti-reflux measures: do not lie down within 2 hours after a meal and raising the head of your bed with bricks (8-10" higher). If pain is not improved after 2 weeks you need to see a gastroenterologist. If it improves, take prilosec for 2 months and indefinite anti-reflux measures and avoid foods which exacerbate the symptoms.

Stop probiotics: Probiotics are worthless and a waste of money. Stop taking them.

No: Probiotics are not supposed to help with cleaning your bowels if that&#x27;s what you are asking. They r suppose to beneficially change the gut flora. They have been used for various indications ;#40; diarrhea/irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory conditions, boosting immunity, etc;#41;. If you are developing diarrhea when you use it then you probably need to discontinue it. Please consult your physician.

Sure...: Try food ssources of probiotics, like cultured low fat/no fat dairy, e.g. yogurt or kefir, miso, tempeh, kim chee, sauerkraut,  sourdough bread. These are easy, tasty, healthy, nutritious sources of probiotics. Various products available without Rx. Probiotics, per se, are not a major factor in bp causation, or Rx. Diet certainly can be.

?species?: I think you are talking about active cultures.At the point of production, probiotics have a specified number of active cultures(in billions) and usually include a dozen or more species. I've seen some tout up to 15 b active cultures and the number is fine. After the product sits on the shelf a few months the number falls.I consider it benign, and safe.

Calcium Carbonate: or Tums, are not associated with thrombocytosis, or a high platelet count. Hope this helps!

Usually: Most people can tolerate probiotics but extremely high doses can cause gastrointestinal upset. I am not aware of any link to hives or allergic diseases. In fact, there are studies showing that probiotics may lower the chance of developing eczema for infants. Do  note that not all probiotics are created equal and different strains may be needed for different folks- thus no universal good guy.
