Go to your doctor: Cytomel (liothyronine) is mainly for supplementation of your t3, which is way more potent than your T4 and is the end product of your t4. Be careful in taking medicines that your doctor has not prescribed as if you cause hyperthyroidism, your heart status can also suffer. It is best to have your level checked and medicine adjusted.

No need.: Cytomel is useful when either a rapid rise, or a rapid fall, in thyroid hormone levels is needed. If there is need to adjust dosage in pregnancy, slower acting synthroid (thyroxine) works just fine.

i'm allergic to iodine. i am hashi hypothyroid. can only take brand synthroid (thyroxine) & cytomel. but when taken together i have a severe allergic reaction.

Check w/Pharmacist: If you mean taking the two pills at the same time causes a reaction, but taking either one by itself does not, then you could try taking them several hours apart (like one w/bkfst and other w/dinner). If that fails, will need to talk to endocrinologist to see if can manage on one agent.

i have hashimotos.on synthroid/cytomel. dr says levels are normal. lymphatic massages 1x a week.  still having a lot of symptoms.  frustrated!

Hashimoto's: Hashimoto's disease often leads to hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid). Unfortunately, symptoms can be vague &amp; nonspecific. Worse, there's wide range of normal. Ask for higher dose then recheck TSH.

Not reported: Metformin has not been reported to interfere with the absorption of thyroid hormones. One report suggested it could lower TSH levels in some patients but with no effect on thyroid hormone levels (t4). I recommend you have your levels checked if symptomatic or as recommended by your provider.

Thyroid weight loss: Thyroid hormones should never be used for weight loss.  They may increase your metabolic rate, but will also increase appetite.  And there is a large potential for side effects.  Beside making you feel nervous, jittery, sweaty, they accelerate your heart to the point of serious problems and can cause mental health problems.

Three weeks?: May take about three weeks or so for your thyroid levels to correct again.  Once that happens, you should start feeling better.

Of course: B"sd Naturethyroid and Armour thyroid are made of dessicated livestock thyroid - I believe manufactured at the same facility.  Accordingly, they contain the mix of thryoid hormones found in barns and pastures and have a bit more T3 - cytomel, (liothyronine) relative to T4-synthroid. Much more convenient than split does replacement, but on the other hand allow for less flexible dosing plan s. Glad to discuss

4-21-14 thyroidectomy r/t thyroiditis, goiter.  on synthroid (thyroxine) 137 mcg- hypo s/s returning have felt great for months.  would adding cytomel help?

Adjust the dose: Many things affect the TSH level. Tissue in the body has the ability to convert T4 to T3 when needed. There are many things that can alter synthroid (thyroxine) absorption. See if you started taking your medication with food or antacids. This commonly lowers absorption of synthroid (thyroxine), leading to symptoms of hypothyroidism. Meet with your doc to recheck TSH level and have synthroid (thyroxine) redosed.

my tsh was 19, and i am on synthroid (thyroxine) .175qd and cytomel 5mcg 3qd.  i have been having migraines ever since they increased my medicine (2 weeks ago).  ?

TSH: Increasing your medication makes sense as your TSH is elevated, however, i would discuss the headaches you are having since this increase with your physician.
