SSRI: SSRI drugs are designed specifically to block the reuptake of serotonin  in the appropriate neurons, and thus increase the effect and length of time that serotonin has an effect, several times that is experienced in nature. Nortryptiline is an tri-cyclic antidepressant that has affinity for serotonin receptors, but does not affect the reuptake. Therefore SSRI drugs have greater effect

is it safe to take prozac 40mg, tamazepam 30mg, and remeron (mirtazapine) 15mg at the same time? i take the prozac in the morning and the other 2 at night

Accepted Answer

YES/NO: This is not an unusual combination of medication.  Members of these families of medications can be and are given together as a protocol. Personally i don't use temazepam in my patients when treating mood or anxiety disorders, however this is just a difference amongst doctors in their choice of sleep meds or med protocols in general 
feel better.

Timing of medication: It's fine to take those medications at night if you feel they are making you sleepy. The important thing is to try to develop a schedule of taking them around the same time every day, whether it's morning or night. It might be the aripiprazole that is making you sleepy rather than the prozac; you might want to try that medication at bedtime first and leave the prozac in the morning as a trial.

Possible: Under the care of a specialized psychiatrist as dose adjustment and frequent monitoring is needed. Prozac may increase the serum concentration of risperidone otherwise and if prescribed by different prescribers make sure they are all aware of all the pills you are taking.

Yes and no: It is safe to take Prozac (fluoxetine) and Diazepam together.  However, long term use of diazepam (a benzodiazepine) can lead to tolerance, dependence, and can interfere with quality (REM) sleep. There are safer and more effective ways to improve sleep and anxiety.  On the other hand, Prozac (fluoxetine) is safe and effective for long term use. Take care!

Often used together: but combo increases risk of rare but serious serotonin syndrome: confusion, hallucination, seizure, extreme blood pressure changes, increased heart rate, fever, excessive sweating, shivering/shaking, blurred vision, muscle spasm or stiffness, tremor, incoordination, stomach cramp, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Alert prescriber or go to ER if occurs. Prozac (fluoxetine) better in AM. Best regards.

: There are no serious interaction between those prescribed drugs and loratadine OTC. Take care.

Timing not critical: Prozac (fluoxetine) is a long lasting medication and does not need to be split up. If you are sensitive to medications you can start with twice a day for a week or longer.  If no issues is is easier to dose the 40 mg  one time a day after that.
