i was prescribed zpack but have a migraine. can i take sumatriptan at the same time?

Yes: You may be addicted to analgesics (pain medicines).  When you miss a dose, you can get headaches.

: Probably yes, but...you didn't just wander into a drug store and get these two meds over the counter. A doctor prescribed them. That doctor is ethically obliged to answer that question and you have the right to ask it of that doctor, the one who knows you and can answer from a position of knowledge.

Too much is toxicity: We limit dosing to avoid toxicity. You need an evaluation if you are  having continued  attacks,. Discuss with your physician about seeing a neurologist who specializes in migraine.

my dr said it was ok to take imitrex (sumatriptan) while on prozac despite the major interaction listed. now maxalt also has the same interaction. is it safe?

Serotonin syndrome: A limited number of people have had a serotonin syndrome from the combination of triptan migraine meds like imitrex, (sumatriptan) Maxalt with ssris like Prozac but i'm had many patients safely take the combo.  Because the migraine meds are short acting i've not seen problems.  Whats for serotonin syndrome sx of sweating, confusion, agitation, racing heart rate.  You might best start with half doses.

i am not sure if i have cluster headaches but i was prescribed divalproex 500mg and naproxen 500mg to take 1 tablet each in the morning and sumatriptan 50mg if the headaches counted. the headaches are coming 4 times a day lasting 15-30 if i take sumatript

You question: (unfortunately) was not completed...You are the right age for clusters (but the "wrong" sex it's more common in males)  CLUSTER HEADACHE (unfortunately) does not consistently respond to anti-migraine medications.
You should be followed by a Headache Specialist/Neurologist for what appears to be chronic migraine. (BOTOX most recently has been helpful)

Likely OK: Migraleve pink contains paracetamol, codeine, and buclizine. These are all classes of medications distinct from the triptans (like sumatriptan), so it is likely ok to take them in conjunction.

Should not: The main problem with taking anything everyday as a treatment for a migraine is that it can cause rebound headaches. This is even true of triptans, but to a lesser degree.  If you are having migraines everyday you need to be on a prophylactic medicine. A medicine to prevent migraines. You may have to go through a period of increased headaches as you stop that daily treatment. I get them too!

can you split a 100mg sumatriptan pill in half and safely take 50mg?

Migraine yes: You can use the Imitrex (sumatriptan) tablet and break half as needed due to intolerance and or side effects.  There should not be any difference in effectiveness of the medication per se but it should be realized that your requirement may be more but you can determine that with effectiveness.  May repeat dosage after two hours and not to be taken more than two time a day.

what do you advise if i'm taking 25 mg of sumatriptan and when i take it i feel like weird, is this normal?

Sumatriptan: Although the sumatriptan represent a marked improvement over previous abortive medications, it does exhibit some adverse effects, the most dramatic of which is the symptom of chest tightness.  Other adverse symptoms associated with the triptans are hot sensations, dizziness, flushing, burning sensations, increased headaches and neck tightness. Good luck.
