My dr said it was ok to take imitrex (sumatriptan) while on prozac despite the major interaction listed. now maxalt also has the same interaction. is it safe?

Serotonin syndrome: A limited number of people have had a serotonin syndrome from the combination of triptan migraine meds like imitrex, (sumatriptan) Maxalt with ssris like Prozac but i'm had many patients safely take the combo. Because the migraine meds are short acting i've not seen problems. Whats for serotonin syndrome sx of sweating, confusion, agitation, racing heart rate. You might best start with half doses.
