why do i sleepwalk when i eat right before i go to sleep? this happens a lot to me.

Unsure: you might have a trigger to sleep walk w mildly elevated blood sugars that happen normally after we eat. another possibility is we can a bit less blood flow to our brain while our body is focusing on digestion, this link is see in practice but the mechanism is not well understood. good luck

Sleep jerks: A twitch is a sudden brief muscle contraction.  Two examples of harmless twitches are "sleep jerks" and hiccups.  Sleep jerks of an arm or leg occur as one is falling asleep.  Hiccups are the result of twitching of the diaphragm muscle.

Hallucinations: There are specific types of hallucinations that can occur right as you are falling asleep & right as you are waking up. It could fall into that category. However, if you have a sleep disorder & bipolar disorder - to go without treatment is very risky for your health.

i have been suffering with health anxiety for about 6 months. i have noticed that my anxiety intensified right before i go to sleep. my 0.5 mg ativan (lorazepam) doesn't seem to help me anymore.. why is that? should i request a new medication?

Tolerance: Your body will develop tolerance to narcotics like opioid pain meds and benzos like Ativan (lorazepam). That means the dose becomes less effective over time. However, benzos are really meant to be short-term helps while the underlying problem is being addressed. There are safer meds that can be used long-term to control anxiety, that won't cause tolerance. Counseling can be very effective for this too.

Palpitations: These are caused by many things. Stress, excitement, irritants both physical and chemical, pressure like a hiatal hernia or esophageal push or pull, and primary heart things, the causes are very many in number.

Sleep apnea: Thats one of the symptoms of sleep apnea. Make sure you use your mask. Some people depending on the severity of the apnea will use a dental appliance or have surgery. Make sure your CPAP has a humidifier on it as well

Problems: Did you taper off your medications or stop them cold turkey? Don't know which psychiatric medications you were on. But stopping some can lead to a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor discontinuation syndrome. The electric shocks can also occur w coming off of some ssri's. Please discuss this w your treating psychiatrist. A slower taper is often helpful. In the meantime practice good sleep &gt;&gt;&gt;.

???: Wake up right before you fall asleep?  People generally are awake before they fall asleep :-). If you mean that you wake up right after falling asleep, with a feeling like falling, this is a common occurrence and generally not a big concern. Just realize that you were startled and relax. If it occurs chronically, possibly see your doctor.

RLS or meds: You may have restless leg syndrome or an electrolyte imbalance.  Both can cause what you describe as well as a malfunctioniung thyroid. Check with you md, who can treat either one.

Part of sleeping: The falling sensation or twitch is known as a hypnagogic myoclonic twitch. As your muscles begin to relax in preparation for sleep, your brain senses these relaxation signals and misinterprets them, thinking you are falling down. The brain then sends signals to the muscles in your arms and legs in an attempt to jerk you back upright.
