can i eat an egg & drink milk while taking doxycycline 100mg & fluconazole(fluzone 200 mg)?

Accepted Answer

Yes: You should avoid dairy products while taking tetracycline, NOT doxycycline. One of the advantages of doxycycline is no dietary restrictions. You do need to be careful of the sun. Fluconazole also has no dietary restrictions.

currently taking doxycycline 2x a day 100mg. i did not know i was not able to eat eggs while taking the med. i consumed small amounts of eggs 2 days in a row only in the am after taking it. will this affect my treatment? been taking the med for 5 day?

: You have a misunderstanding. Dairy products (milk, ice cream, etc) interfere with absorption of the drug, but even this is unlikely to be a problem except in high dose:  don't take doxy with, say, a large sundae. But most foods are entirely OK, including eggs. In fact, it is often recommended that stomach upset from doxy can be prevented by taking the drug with meals, except no dairy foods.

: Eggs should not affect the efficacy of doxy but it should be taken an hour or so before a meal or 2 hours after eating for best results

: Yes. Doxycycline is not affected by food, except dairy products (milk, ice cream, cheese, etc). But if in doubt about these or other foods, it's no big deal to just delay your next dose until 2 hours after eating. With rare exceptions, no antibiotic needs to be taken exactly on  time.

can i eat 6 egg whites, 2 hours after taking 100 mg doxycycline hyclate? im seeing a lot of conflicting info saying wait two hours, dont eat it at all, or that it does not matter if you eat it?

: There is conflicting information. If you're taking a lower dose of 40 mg of doxycycline a day for rosacea or gum infections, take it at least 1 hour before food.  So the lower dose is better without food. If you're taking a higher dose of 100 mg  (like you) or more for other infections, you can take it with or without food. But you're less likely to feel stomach discomfort if you have with food.

i have been eating raw eggs and was on doxycycline for about 2 years once a day. suddenly i started having hair fall a lot. my hair hurts a lot.

Doctor should check: One's primary care doctor can check for medical causes. If none are found, then one can see a dermatologist, especially one specializing in hair restoration (some treatments: minoxidil, finasteride, hair transplants, ...). Medical causes may include: hormonal problems (low thyroid), seborrhea, alopecia areata, stressful illness. Other causes: genetic male/female pattern baldness, telogen effluvium.

prescribe doxycycline post egg retrieval for ivf. vomited 30 minutes after taking. will it be effective or should i take another one now?

Accepted Answer

No: Generally oral antibiotics are given a one before, the day of and the day after embryo transfer to decrease a possible, but unlikely risk, of bacterial contamination of the embryo catheter during transfer from bacteria in the vagina.  If you are several days post transfer there will probably be little value at this point.  Good luck with the transfer.

Variety: Eggs daily are not the best idea, as variety helps in any diet. However, an egg daily is not necessarily a bad thing. Maintain your ideal weight, exercise regularly and have variety in your diet. Be well.

Usually OK: The chance of cross-reactivity is around 10% so for most people it will be ok.

Sure: There are no egg restrictions during pregnancy at all except that they should be cooked.
