HSV1 : You have herpes type i. It just seems suppressed by your immunity.

No: If a person has antibodies to HSV1 (has immunity), she should not get new HSV1 infections in places that she did not get HSV1 sores in the past. New herpes lesions on the genitals would be presumed HSV2 (if the HSV2 antibodies turned positive on the blood tests after the new genital herpes sores). Life can surprise you sometimes. Maybe HSV1 was in the genitals in the past but wasn't noticeable.

: More than half the adults have been infected with HSV 1 and other than occasional cold sores are none the worse for it. So if you have HSV 1 it is not a cause for concern. Wish you good health!

Only if recurrent: If it is the first time, the blood test is not positive until 2-4 weeks, after that it is pos for many years. Usually it is easy to recognize by an experienced dr. A culture can confirm & differentiate type 1 or 2. Creams are a waste of $$$. The pills are very useful if started on the first day.

Q: how long does it take for hsv1 anitbodies to form in the blood?

HSV blood test: It can be as soon as 3 weeks, but sometimes up to 12 weeks. If you were possibly exposed and want reassurance you were not infected, it's best to wait at least 12 weeks. If actual symptoms very typical of new HSV, get tested ASAP and again after 12 weeks -- looking for negative becoming positive.

HSV1?: Both types of herpes simplex virus (hsv 1 and hsv 2) can produce vaginal lesions and be found there.

: It's time to stop worrying about self-infection. After one gets HSV-1 (more than half of adults have it), she makes antibodies and is immune so does not infect herself in other places if she touches and moves her future outbreak viruses over her body. A normal person with HSV-1 does not worry about self-spread. One possible concern is passing HSV-1 to a new baby or an uninfected intimate partner.

Unrelated: Herpes doesn't cause symptoms like this. Completely unrelated and antiviral therapy won't help. Keep working with your doctor.
