Fiber and Stanols: 1. Plant stanol margarines (take control or benechol) can lower bad cholesterol by up to 15% if 2-3 tablespoons are eaten each day. There are low fat versions.

2. Soluble fiber products that contain psyllium (metamucil) can lower cholesterol by 5-10% if you take 10 grams or more per day of psyllium.

3. Some soy products like tofu and soy nuts and milk may slightly lower cholesterol.

Despite "pop" wisdom, lipid problems are mostly genetic, and food choices are of relatively little consequences. Staying physically fit may be much more helpful, depending on what's actually going on.

Drugs for infarct: 1. Get your cholesterol as low as you can.  If LDL does not get to goal then information is put into one of the CAD risk factor calculators and if risk is high enough and you agree you most likely you will be placed on a statin.  Cant name them all.  Also may need BP meds and aspirin and Beta blockers. Only your Cardiologist can tell you what YOU should be doing. Also stop smoking if you smoke now

Serendipity : You may have several unrelated problems. Most gallstones are cholesterol stones and are associated with rapid weight loss.  A transient elevation in liver enzymes can occur when a gallstone passes through the common bile duct.  If your symptoms are related to fatty or fried food, ask your doctor for an ultrasound or hida scan.  The egfr is a concern. Have the test repeated before additional tests.

Bile duct, ? Stones). If you did not have these symptoms  at the time you had the ct scan and work up, then it is really important to get this evaluated.  These are not normal symptoms.
