right rib cage pain for months.nr bottom of ribs. not excruciating but tender, aching and every day.cant sleep on that side.blood tests for liver are fine.i have ibs &gerd- could this be the cause?no fever,weight loss or jaundice.

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor and discuss if you may be depressed. Counter-intuitive as it may seem, exercise may help. Start with low intensity exercise such as walking and gradually increase the intensity as tolerated.  Wish you good health!

See your doctor: Both trouble swallowing and unintentional
weight loss are serious symptoms and may be due to problems other than gerd. Do not wait to see a gastroenterologist.

i have gerd that is not getting better after 2 months. i am on zantac (ranitidine) 150 mg 2x daily. my main difficulties are difficulty breathing and weight loss. ?

GERD??: Shortness of breath and weight loss can be caused by many things. Since it is not improving on anti-reflux med for 2 months, you need further evaluation. A lung doctor may be helpful to figure out what the shortness of breath is from. Are your oxygen levels low? Pulmonary function testing, a CAT scan of the chest, blood work, etc. may be needed. If you smoke, quit ASAP. See lung doctor. Good luck!

Gluten Sensitivity: Wheat gluten sensitivity can cause severe gastrointestinal and pain symptoms including reflux, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, joint and muscle pain, fasciitis in hands and feet, and fibromyalgia type pain. If you stopped eating wheat and those symptoms disappeared, it is likely you are sensitive. That does not mean you have celiac disease, but you may want the blood test. Good luck!

i suffer from acid reflux/gerd, however it is happening now on a weekly basis, along with weight loss and tooth decay due to acid, as well as black tongue and dark stools. interferes with sleep. have been for 2 scopes in 2 years. why is it worse?

: Can only guess. Maybe insufficient PPI (Protonix, Prevacid, Aciphex, etc, etc), maybe Barrett’s esophagus (pre-malignant), maybe esophageal ulcer, maybe. maybe, maybe. Need to see gastroenterologist and (probably) have repeat EGD.

Unable to tell: At the age of 18, esophageal cancer in you would be extremely unlikely.  However, the only way to tell if something in the GI tract is cancer is to perform endoscopy with a lighted camera that searches the GI tract and biopsies anything that looks unusual.
Unintentional weight loss needs to be explored as it can be a sign of cancer, but there are other causes as well, such as thyroid disease.

Need evaluation: Because of your age, your symptoms also could be related to thyroid problems, or thyroglossal cyst. For which rushing into a diagnosis of gerd without physical exam wouldn't be recommended , especially if you have been losing weight.

Probably not: Helpful weight loss diets have natural foods that take time to chew but contain few calories. Examples include carrots, celery, and leafy lettuce (little or no salad dressing). When shopping for fruits, buy small ones no bigger than a tennis ball, because fruits have sugar. Drinks without calories include water and green tea. A calorie is a calorie but surely avoid sugar or simple starch calories.

why do people with gerd lose weight? is this do to an upset stomach/digestive problems related to acid reflux?

Probably not related: Weight loss is not common with gerd&gt; usually weight loss will improve gerd in overweight patients.

i keep having lung infections since march 2020. i have reflux gerd sinutis asthma & ibs if i stick to a diet work out lose weight i shouldn't have bronchitis anymore. my whole life i've been active and healthy. at 43 i don't smoke i'm scared it copd?

GERD Lung infect: Some with GERD get acid into lungs, and aggravate asthma.  I would recommend putting the head legs of your bed on 8 inch blocks (Bed Bath Beyond) to see if that helps GERD Lung Asthma. Gravity never sleeps. Also get your BMI down to 25 and much may go away. Discuss with your team and read uptodate.com about GERD and lung infections, etc.
